i am looking at a 4.6hse engine from a wreckers that is from a car that was broken into and the ignition etc was completly destroyed. the electrical part of the ignition switch is still intact and can be turned but the rest is useless.

is there a procedure to disable the immobiliser to get the motor running so i can check the engine for bearing issues/blown head gasket etc???

if there is no easy way around the immobiliser another option could be to fit a carburettor into the intake plumbing, this would give it fuel. the next step is to get the coil packs to work.

following on from this could someone please explain how the coils are controlled. does the immobiliser also deactivate these or does it only stop the fuel?

i only need the engine to run for 15 minutes or so to check it out so any quick fixes to get it to run would be greatly appreciated

You dont honestly expect us to tell you that on an open public forum, do ya?

perhaps you could pm me then Mad. as mentioned in my post i can get the thing running with a carburettor if i can get the coil packs to run. is there a way to do this easily ~ eg can i put a distributor from say a 3500 rover v8 on the 4.6... any assistance with this would be appreciated as this is the only 4.6 engine i have been able to find in the past 6 months and it will save scrapping the car as it is not economic to spend 4000-5000 fixing and then reconditioning the original engine ~ these cars are only worth 6000-9000 in new zealand...

cant fit a distributor without changing timing chest cover, what you are asking is not simple.
The Car needs bcem unit to allow engine to run. Unless you have key and EKA code and it decides to play the game.

your best bet is to compression test it and also pull the heads and look for liner slip-as liners are notorious on these
possibly not what you wanted to hear.
