Hi,
I thought I'd start a different thread as this is a much simpler question that I'm hoping anyone with a P38 on EAS could answer.

With the engine running, bonnet up and the car in the level position my eas compressor runs for about 20 seconds then goes off for about 10 seconds, then on for 20 and off for 10 etc.. etc.. in this cycle.

Is this normal? Does anyone elses car do this? It does it even if we're sat in traffic with the bonnet down etc... I suspect an air leak or something but can anyone qualify if this cycle of activity is normal for the compressor?

Thanks
Richard

Depends really, the question I would ask is when your standing there watching it run are you hearing any clicks from the valve block?? As in is the vehicle constantly levelling and making slight adjustments to its height??

-Wills :)

My 1996 P38 used to have the same issue, it's not normal... :(

or there is a leak in one or more of the suspension bags, or the compressor itself or its hoses are "leaking". Thirth option are the level sensors.

In my case the garage tried to sell me a 2000€ valve block and compressor while only the rubber ring on the piston in the compressor was bad.

try to find out if its the compressor or the bags.

Thanks folk for your prompt feedback.
I have a feeling I'm going to get intimatley involved with the EAS over the coming weeks. I just wish the weather would pick up to make the pending job a little more appealing.

Cheers

Does the car drop over night when left? If so it would point to a leak in the system, possibly bags or even the lines feeding them. A recent thread on here had someone with a plastic feed pipe which had been rubbing and had caused a leak. If you search there's lots of help about checking bags for leaks etc.

If the car is staying up , i would think its more likely to be the compressor, possibly the piston ring. The unit will be working very had trying to maintain system pressure without being very efficient.

It sits fine over night (nothing noticable anyway).
My compressor is slow, I think I may have a leak near the storage tank.

oh joy....

that's wat I was talking about....

It's fairly easy to check what's wrong: try to connect an other compressor, you'llknow directly if it's the compreesor or not.

as for the psiton ring, I've seen the mechanic correct it in 5 minutes

Seal on piston in compressor, thats what I have had, easy to change and available without having to buy a new or recon unit, check Rangrover net youl will see advice on rebuild and where to get.
