P38 brakes

Hi,

I'm having brake trouble with my 2001 DHSE. The calipers seem to be binding on the discs. First it was the rear drivers side, now its the rear passenger side.
Can anyone tell me if this is common in P38's (or land rovers in general)

At the moment the effects are a really nasty smell, 21mpg and probably destroying a fairly new disc and pads.

Get them apart and grease them up with red rubber grease! It's a fairly easy job which should be done regularly, at least with each brake pad change.

Make sure the rubber gaitors on the sliding pins are intact and full of grease, and that the brake disc shield is in place.

Also you can check that your flexible rubber hoses aren't collapsing internally, this can trap pressure against the piston.

These aren't specific faults to P38s, but apply to all sliding fist type calipers.

dont know if it is common but a mate has a 4.6 vogue at the same age and he has had the same trouble.
