P38 Body Electrics Intermittent Problem

This problem is occuring on my friends P reg DSE.

Sometimes everything works, but whist driving a clicking noise is heard (similar to the noise a relay makes) from the BeCM, and then he looses most of his electrics, including the climate control, radio, and wipers. The dash computer stays working, as do the headlights.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

someone else may have a better idea, but I had weird electrical issues such as headlight wiper spraying and moving randomly lights going out on dash etc. I feared the worst-but using rave I cleaned all the earths and also cleaned the plugs on bcem which a couple of pins had grean corrosion on.

Other than that there are a couple of boards internally that can be swapped Irish rover or someone else will be able to tell more

Thanks for your reply. We had a look at the earths yesterday thinking that they would be the problem, and they all look good. We also took the top of the BeCM off and found it was RL7 that is clicking in and out. Thats as far as we got though! Not really sure where to go from here now!

Could be a faulty internal relay or Mosfet, would reall need to have the BECM hooked up to a BECM CPU software module.
Friendly word of advice....before delving around in the BECM, be sure to wear a grounding strap or electrostatic dishcharge can wreck the unit.:behindsofa:

Nothing to stop you changing the top board, but it must be from the same type of BECM..e.g. Petrol High Line (All electric memory seats etc.), Low line or Diesel variants.

Is that as simply as it sounds? Its a Lowline diesel, so if he was to get hold of a working one toreplace his, is there any programming that needs to be done to tell it that it is in a new car?

All the data is held in the processor which is mounted on the lower board. It may pay however pay to have the function settings checked and customised to your preferences by Test Book, Rovacom or Autologic.
The complete new unit will not work as a straight swap unless the lockset is also changed or the unit unlocked and reprogrammed to suit your vehicle.
