Hi all

Am thinking of installing a blue tooth phone kit in the beast has the Clarion unit and steering wheal controls.

What have you all installed that works with the standard setup e.g. mute's the Clarion and works well though the HK speakers ?

Any thoughts please as will be doing a lot of driving in France and want to get setup for ease of journey etc.

best regards to all

Tony:)

Clarion and HK system are not compatible with bluetooth kits because they do not use only one amp but one for each door IIRC. Many tried and got loud noise and pops.
Official Parrot solution for all those very good audio systems like HK and JBL...is to install a dedicated speaker for the phone kit only.

I installed last month a Parrot MKI9000 this way and it works well but i can't benefit of the Ipod on my HK system.

I've got the later HK system with the Alpine HeadUnit and a Bluetooth kit and it all works perfectly - it mutes the stereo and allows the calls to output through the front speakers. Perfect. I'm using it with a Sony Ericsson kit but will change to a Parrot one at some stage.

I had to buy an interface to allow the kit to work with the HK install - IIRC it was around a £100 though - not cheap, but does the job.

I don't remember - sorry (it was almost 2.5 years ago and I've slept since!)

I have a feeling I got it here though Dashmount Car Kits

If you click on the PDF they list an adaptor for the Clarion HK kit...

Hi all

thanks for the input so far am interested in the adaptor for the older H/K setup, will investigate furher

Tony,

There's an outfit called Roverville somewhere up north that repairs the Clarion unit for when the power chip goes, the LCD dies or the code locks out. They also do a mod to allow using an iPod. I reckon they'd be the ones to ask if there is a way to signal the head unit to mute or at least attenuate the volume at the pre-amp level. From there on its fairly simple to add a bluetooth kit, I'd suggest one from your phone manufacturer. I don't have an integrated bluetooth in the Rangie (I opted for a stand alone) but in my Acura I use a full Nokia kit that's plumbed in to the back of the stereo and it works perfectly.

The clarion head units have a phone mute facility already. Not sure how to activate though as the only time Ive heard of it is when the steering wheel switches start to die and it gets activated by a dodgy signal from the wheel switches.

Tiz easy to check for tho :D

There was an official mobile phone mount available STC8920 which I'm sure linked into the stereo system so as Rewmer said, it should be possible even on the older models.

In order to find out which pin is the radio mute, you need to earth it - but the safest way is using a test light.

Using your test light just, with the stereo on, just touch the pins one at a time, through the light to ground.

You'll tell when you've found the mute as the stereo will mute and display phone or mute on the screen.

Connect your mute wire to this pin.
