whilst i have got to the bottom of most of my electrical faults replacing corroded connecters mainly i have a few stored fault codes that iam yet to get to the bottom of.
whilst plugged in and scanning for codes in body control i get no comms with center console and no coms with left and right door outstations i know these are common failings ie center switch panel and door outstations but to have all three fail would be odd!
these faults wont clear but everything works windows central locking alarm lazy locking (shuts windows) etc
wondered if there is a common connecter for these that i could have missed somewhere as i have allready replaced all connecters in drivers and passenger kick panels the spliced wires which run under heater matrix o rings with good soldered joins and of course heat shrunk?
any ideas or is it time to get the becm sent away for testing!?

where am i looking to start diagnosing these faults? on the scantool it says body controller so i assumed it would be in the becm beleave me iam no way doubting what you say is true! any ideas where these codes are stored or what ecu?

If everything works, you don't have a problem. The fact that your scanner will not talk to the BECM is a separate issue, whose make of scanner is it? There are no codes associated with the BECM as Irishrover, the real expert said.

morning john,how are you keeping matey,well i hope.:D:D;)

:welcome2:Hi John...not so bad. Long time no see on the forum:)

The Becm only acts as an "Interface, or Postman" for the other ecu's and sends messages to the dash display. Faults need to be isolated to the individual ecu concerned..EAS, HEVAC, ABS etc. and then read and cleared by accessing the ecu in question.

no the scanner does talk to everything now i have repaired the wiring! all i was asking if i have codes saying door outstation no coms and center panel no coms and they are not stored in the becm then which ecu would they be related to iam not questioning the knowledge of irish rover in anyway!!!

:behindsofa: I question my knowledge all the time !!!:hysterically_laughi:hysterically_laughi

If everything is working as it should be...where's the problem ??? Looks like you have done a good job on the wiring. If the door outstation is doing what it should, when it should, then comms are in place. I can only assume that the reference you are getting is lack of comms with your scanner.

the only reason i wanted to look into it further was trying to prevent it failing and breaking down on me pro active maintenance if you like!
i dont think it is the scanner as they were faults that would not clear and the 2 other faults which i ignored were electric seat fault if fitted which they are not so didnt worry me what i dont understand is if they are reading these faults they must be stored somewhere reason why i thought becm is if i look at rave the only ecu connected in the system that i can see is becm which interfaces with switch pack and door outstations.
perhaps as they are a common failing the switch pack is getting a bit dodgy as these i would guess is the only really common part feeding both door outstations
as for wiring repairs took me four hours to remove plugs and solder the wires together i reckon about 100 soldered joints! and i can communicate with every ecu in the car now which it wouldnt before

think it was a diagnos or something like that it has replacement cartridges for different makes of car it does by what i can see pretty much everything that landrover specific ones do ie adjust idle speed diesel actuator functions programming etc
it belongs to a mate of mine who took over his dads buisness i go and use it when i like as i used to work for his dad when it was a 4x4 specialist years ago do the odd day to help him out here and there handy as i left the trade 3yrs ago as it just didnt pay enough so now do diesel trains instead!

I agree Nathan that the OBDII protocol exists on the P38, but is limited with regard to hardware capabilities.
As you have no doubt read on this and other related forums, the only 100% effective way of "Talking" to & obtaining worthwhile data, plus the facility to read live inputs and outputs, plus being able to force these during fault finding, rests with a limited number of dedicated systems...Test Book, Faultmate/Rovacom and Autologic in the main.
No doubt, and I agree that certain generic scanners will perform certain tasks, but as you know, lack full functionality accross the range of different ECU's used. Put simply, a bit like having an adjustable spanner in your tool box, most useful, but has it's limitations and can get you out of a hole on many, but not every time.

As I said before...you have done well and everything is working as it should, at this moment in time, don't start looking for non existant problems.

Think if it was a faultmate you could have reset all outstations with ignition off then turn back on to re read the faults this will have then cleard the faults that you have repaired other wise its going to keep the stored faults in memory and tell you there same faults are still there...i think. :pop2:

well i think i shall leave alone and move onto the next fault which turned out to be easier than the last lot my headlamp wipers werent working went to check the wiring plugs by the headlamps for corrosion etc and found the drivers side unplugged squirt of electrical cleaner plug back in and hey presto they work! if only all electrical faults were that easy!
