Hi all

Been viewing this great site for over a year now and i now need to ask all you experts a question.
i stupidly run very low on petrol and have burnt out the in tank pump, i first noticed a clutch like burning spell as I got out at the fuel station but thought nothing of it but when filling smoke was puffing out of the filler pipe.
I had planned to start on lpg to get the p38 and family inc dog home, but it wont start. on investigation i noticed that the previous keeper had replaced the 10A pump fuse with a 20A and a nasty smell from the under bonnet fuse box.

1. is it possible to repair the fuse box or is it a case of just sourcing a replacement and swapping over

2 does the fuel tank need dropping to replace the pump

thanks in advance

Justin

Will the ecu stop the engine from running if the fuel pump is dead or no fuel pressure ?

Its very strange as it was running fine on LPG until i switched off to fill up with petrol

i would think its your fuse box maybe burnt out. have you got a code reader? if so plug in and see if you get any codes if you do post them we can find out where your problem lies

tank needs to be removed, unless like me you cut an access flap in the floor under the rear seat. this will allow you to change the pump without dropping the tank. 1 hour job.
Any pics of it?
I did cut a flap in mine but i'm not sure to be able to change the pump through this flap.

use this link for pics and info on the access flap

be sure to use a very sharp knife to cut the carpet, then when it is replaced you wil never notice it.
i had my pump out 3 times in a week trying to cure a faulty sender unit. the pump itself was fine, but i ended up renewing the whole pump assembly in the end
Used it when i cutted my flap. I'm a fellow member of rangerovers.net.

I thought the place that serves as a hinge is very rigid and bent so it may be difficult to get the pump out but you validated the use of it
