have you checked the fuel pressure regulator, it is located at the rear of the engine behind the manifold, it looks similar to the old vaccum advance retard unit on the side of old distributors. It will have a small vaccum pipe comming off it, first check the vaccum pipe is in good shape and no leaks and the check the unit hold vacuum, and easy check is to get a lenght of pipe that fits the unit and then suck on it, you should be able to suck and then hold a vaccum, which you should feel on your tounge, if you can just suck and suck and not create a vaccum, the diaphragm has perished in the unit. the unit works on the return side of the fuel system, basically as pressure builds it releases the pressure at a set point, if yours is knackerd it may not be building up full fuel pressure as revs rise.

i tried changing the fuel pressure regulator for a bmw one that i had now it revs up to 3-4 k no more

i think the fuel reg i have fitted is prob not powerful enough as its off a 2.5 litre car.

i did this jus to test it as i dont have a tool to check the fuel pressure nor had a chance to get to a garage.

yeah you need the correct one for the correct fule pressure, i remember in my younger days of tuning, i fitted an adjustable one to my beloved Mk1 Astra GTE, it could be adjusted to a higher pressure. Don't know if one will be available for the P38, but they were universal, just another thought if a new original one is pricey

hi guys still waiting for a fuel regulator to be delivered stil ant turned up so not been able to do much

one thing happend today my left side cat set my cat heat shield alight which i quickly spotted and put out

the heat shield looked quite old and on its way out

i was wondering if the cat could be blocked or collapsed and causing the engine problem?

i have noticed smoke coming from the left side cat for a while it just started getting more and more recently

any one know how much these heat shields are.

thanks

hi guys this is still the same its been parked up as i havnt managed to get it fixed

i got another car that i can drive around till this is getting sorted

any other ideas before i jus rip the engine out and put in a working one from another range rover.

tried lots of things
adaption reset
new spark plugs
tried swapping fuel pum
fitted new valley gasket and bottom manifold gasket

had it on a computer before and didnt show any faults

its gone abit underpowered on gas aswel going up hill seems to be hard
on petrol jus misfires and doesnt drive at all

tried swapping relays and fuses.

any one that can help i live in kent

i did try swapping mine over with a different working one still the same problem any ideas guys still got the problem of not being able to accelerate over 3k revs on petrol could it be low oil pressure? what problems can you experience if the oil pump is worn or not working?

me too! http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/fire-hazard-124114.html

i'm making my own heat shields though as can't seem to find any at the usual parts places.

one thing, you've touched on the topic of sensors but no one seems to have suggested looking at cam and crank position sensors. my crank sensor had a broken harness giving intermittent starting, engine cutting out and poor revving. resoldering the lead was all it took. worth a look.

oh and do take the trouble of checking the fusebox circuits and contacts. this is a KNOWN problem area.
