My money is on the fuel trims, take it to LR and ask them to reset the fuel trims. It won't be cheap going to the main stealer and the car will run like a bag of ****e for at least 50 miles afterwards. Plus, you will need to drive on petrol for a good hundred miles from LR resetting the trims to give the fuel trims time to set themselves up. You need to do a mix of town driving and long distance driving to get a better result.

Go back to LPG and run on it for a while, if your original petrol problem comes back then you know it's the LPG running too rich.

I'm no expert on this but having owned a Disco II with LPG problems I got to learn quite a bit about it.

Give it a try, what have you got to lose? it's better to know for sure than buggering your engine.

hi mate the dealer local to me in sidcup chatge around £40 to put it on testbook computer so might get that done only problem is you have to book in such advance

hi mate i got a Recovery guy come out and have a look at it he didnt have much tools lol

but he thinks its either one of the coils breaking down but when i showed him how better it drives on lpg and idles he thinks its a faulty injector or two

another thing is mate i cant start it on lpg unless i am lucky for it to start on petrol then hold the switch dwn quickly and switch it to lpg. i do have the lpg system cable and software.

i dont think i will be able to set it up again as it doesnt rev on petrol that high to calibrate it.

Know any independent LR guys with testbook?

Someone suggested the coil breaking down. - I doubt it, if the coil was breaking down it wouldn't run on gas as everything needs to be 100% for gas. Petrol is a little bit more forgiving.

Someone said about testing the petrol fuel pressure. - if I remember rightly that's an inlet manifold job off. Once off you will see the fuel rail with a valve on it a bit like a tyre valve made of metal. If you are going down that route which I don't think you will need to do my advice would be to replace the HT leads whilst you are there, that way they are done. Like I said up there, everything needs to spot on for gas so they must be ok but well worth doing anyway.

Try this. Turn key to ignition 2 and immediatly hold down your change over switch hold it till the gas light stays on. May work for you otherwise there will be a way to start on gas, you just have to find it. Do you know what gas system you have? A quick google will tell you how to gas start. You need to get it running sweetos on petrol before you re- set the gas, I am sure a adaptive reset will help. I would still strongly suggest getting the fuel pressur checked as this is still an unknown quantity. Any reasonable garage should be able to do this for the price of a drink. The pressure test point is easy to find on your gems engine.

hi mate nah i dont know of any local guy to be with a testbook just the dealer.

about the coils i thought the same as you they have to be 100% in order for it to work on gas.

about the fuel pressure rail the tyre type vavle can be seen on my engine without taking any engine parts off.

the leads and sparks were done about 9-10 months ago..
 
Hello , as stated in previous post, unlikely to be coils , and you can check injectors withe a simple tool like screwdriver, if you can get it to run long enough hold it on each injector and to your ear and you should be able to here each one in turn ticking away nicely, and if there is a problem with 1 or 2 you will be able to tell, ....,
yes i got 4.0 lt gems, but only run it on expensive fule lol, lots of people seem to have problems with gas , when you think of the time and money trying to sort out all the problems i'm sure its cheaper in the long run to run it on petrol .. lol... Rob :D:D
 
if you have a button for lpg then i brlieve you have to hold it to start on gas for about 5 secs if a switch like mine then switch to and fro and it should keep the lpg light on.

In the lpg software you should be able to select 'alt fuel start' or similar. Or set the temp as low as it will go, i set my rpm to its lowest so it switches just after its fired up with just the slightest nudge on the pedal.
 
kinda, rob. I have the pre-heater running so its already up to at least switchover temp when i start. But all through last summer it was set the same and it ran smooth. I am hoping to get away from petrol and maybe replace the tank with an lpg tank. Reserving only the smallest petrol tank just incase lpg is unavailable. But thats a project along with the other ten billion i keep for rainy days.

And yes i am tight. If i pay around 500 quid a month income tax, i dont want to be taxed on the remainder if i can help it. £1.10 a litre for petrol! I bet at least 80p goes to the govt in taxes

Allo, very few independents would have a proper test book. I took my Disco II to an indy up here who had one, he wouldn't tell me how much it cost but he did say he had to take out a small mortgage :eek:
