OK.. after reading this thread and one from yesterday re a problem with a P38, I think you guys may have a point with the Disco..

Im gonna start reading up on those now...

Although I still have to admit, the RR has the looks...

Toyota Landcruiser???? .......NO WAY, not pretty enough....hahaha

Having owned both a p38 and a Disco I would go for a late Disco 1 or as said before as late as possible p38 model. The 4.6 gives similar mpg to the 4.0 but does normally come with better spec as long as you dont expect more than 18 - 20 mpg on a good run you'll do well.

The p38 is better looking and has much better on road manners than the disco but has a good chance of costing you £££s when (not if) it goes wrong.

The disco is much more basic and in my opinion is not always a bad thing where LR is concerned. Although they do have a problem with the rust worm :(

Bottom line is it's a LR and will go wrong at some point. Its down to how deep your pockets are ;)

and yes even with its problems I still miss my p38

if it's pre bcem and coil suspension then you have rust ,engine, gearbox to worry about-If it's got eas and bcem extra possible fun

I think you have to decide on the colour / trim / spec / price that you want and then keep an eye out for one that meets the criteria. There's plenty about so you don't need to rush into anything. Take your time. Just like most of us probably didn't do on here! I haven't driven a 4.0 so I can't comment on them performance wise but the earlier ones definitely had a lower spec trim than the 4.6's. Later ones after around 99 - 2000 were probably pretty much on par. I would imagine normal everyday knocking about and cruising you wouldn'y really notice the difference between the engines.
