Sorry to resurrect this thread guys bt have posted here asing this question. I am desperate for my first RR and can't decide which to buy diesel or bur 4.0petrol and have it converted. Whats best option for someone who not swimming in cash like me


How much is it to do a good conversion. And doesanyone have figures for liters/100km for lpg

Well i did this to my 4.0 P38 rangie, i wouldn't do it again, if you go ahead, get multi point injection, DONOT go single point, DONOT fit tanks under chassis either, like some have done!! get a tank in the spare wheel well (doughnut style tank) or in the boot, but expect to lose half your space. LPG is hotter then petrol and you could end up with a cracked liner eventually, make sure you get a reputable kit, if you fit it yourself, you will need it setting up, the single point WILL lose power aswell.......Go diesel and if you want more power, then call Jeremy fearn in Beeley, Derbyshire and he will re-chip for you, if your budget allows, go L322 diesel and this will beat the pants off both models in standard form, then re-chip the L322 diesel...a flier.

LPG multi point kit....fitted brand new is around £2.500...is it worth it.
Another idea...diesel conversion into P38 which can be done, but then you might as well buy a L322, which is what i did.
This is ONLY my experience, someone will disagree with what i have said, but if you do get a diesel, you can always run it on bio-fuel......cleaned chip fat or veggy oil. Also make sure if you do go gas, it has the two 12volt LPG shut off valves,
GO DIESEL.......hope this helps
Ps. people aren't going for LPG like they used to, unless they get a cheaper supply, like using bottle gas, but that has a glitch too.....
 
I`ve a diesel, and am content. BUT if you ain`t swimming in cash, and are planning on buying a cheap Rangie.... don`t worry ... nowt to loose.... if you`re rich, equally, don`t worry, you`ll soon be poor like the rest of us.!
Rangies may be cheap to buy at the mo`, but never were, an` never will be cheap to run. Great cars an` most of us here are fans, but all versions are expensive to run.
Sorry to put a damper on your enthusiasm, but if you go in with your eyes open there shouldn`t be any nasty surprises waitng for you.
By the by I think there`s a much better answer on here somewhere, but can`t remember where.... Sure some-one`s gonna know what I`m chundering on about...?
 
If I remember, Teflon put up a good piece about the cost of Rangie ownership , but I can`t remember which thread... Any-one?...

Best advice... Take ya time in finding one DONT buy the 1st one u see cos it looks good, Theres plenty out there to choose from
