buy a petrol if you want slipped liners, buy a diesel if you want to get there but not quite as quickly when pulling away

It was equal earlier on this afternoon.
If the V8 was clearly the best choice and what everyone should buy then by that thinking the poll would read 100% V8!

This nugget raises its head every few months, are you V8 guys on a rota for diesel bashing or wot!
Bottom line the V8 is undeniably a nicer package but most people buying P38s/classics these days are on a budget and the diesels are a better bet longterm from a maintenance/reliability point of view. Also worth remembering is that LPG is not as readily available or as cheap in every country. LPG is only 10% cheaper than diesel here in Ireland with very few outlets (keep that in mind if you are touring over here, make sure you top up before you get on the boat). Therefore there isn't even an argument over which is better here, Diesel RRs outsell V8's 10 to 1 in the secondhand market.
The V8 is stilll nicer though!

It would have to be the V8 everytime, young men dont marvel at the sound of a dirty diesel its a V8 roar they all pine for and LPG helps you live the dream of owning a big V8 you dont get people tip their hat to you or give you that knowing nod when you drive diesel only in the V8 mate.

V8 every single time.
I've just spent nearly a week changing the auto box on my Classic and it was worth it just to listen to the thing firing up after all the hard work. If I was unfortunate enough to own a diesel Range Rover, I wouldn't have bothered fixing it. I'd have taken it apart and sold the bits on ebay.
Diesels do nothing for me, I'm sure the new LR V8 diesel is worthwhile, but the BMW 2.5 in the P38 just doesn't have any guts to speak of. It's useless in a Vauxhall Omega weighing 3/4 of a ton less than a P38, worse than useless in a P38.
V8 on gas, it's the only way. Far more satisfactory than anything with Dr Diesels Evil Invention.
Unfortunately, mine's still on petrol, so I'm lucky to get 14 mpg...

I will have to vote for the diesel i have the 2.5dt model and i had the engine chipped a few months ago, that made all the differance with no loss of mpg

Question:doe's anybody know what is normal consumption of LPG/100 km??Currently my is 22 litres,I think I have promblem with Lambda sonds??

Always had diesel vehicles and P38 Diesel is the one for me.
I love the MPG, tows my caravan and running costs low.
If I had an endless supply of money I would certainly have the petrol version with very throaty pipes on.
Hasn't LPG gone up in price since this thread started!

I've got a Classic lpg 3.9l and get about 160 miles for 64 litres so that's about 11 mpg on the motorway at a steady 70 mph,

Yeah but my classic doesn't, I reckon it would be only a little better on Petrol but I haven't got trip computers to work it out and I don't want the expense of running a full tank of petrol to find what the mpg might be.
Maybe I should get the lpg system checked out to make sure it's not running too rich
