Hiya,

Just wondered what fuel consumption people are getting on a P38 2.5's Ive not had mine long but average around town has been 18mpg. I thought it may be in part due to it being long overdue a decent service which I've just done but it's still not much better now. The car seems to drive fine with no smoke but it has done 162000miles.

Ah, the joys of a slop box

I have a 'P' Reg DHSE manual on 190k
At worst i get 27mpg
34mpg within easy reach on the motorways

i average around 20mpg around town and at best 31mpg on a run

if i spend alot of time in traffic it gets as low as 16mpg

how does this compare to the 4.0 and 4.6 petrol

and any LPG comparisons would be good

i used to get around 11mpg round town/to fro work. on a run i get the max of abou 21mpg. 4.0 petrol!!!

if i really tried i recon i could get down to around 8mpg and thats what alot of hgv vehicles do with a full load!

if you want good mpg go buy a toyota ****wit or a ****roen c eleventy 12, the c stands for **** by the way! if you want to go from a to b and ejoy the journey even if you dont make it to b because of some p38esque desire to break down every 2.5 miles then get a p38!

as for lpg its cheaper but around 15% less efficient so you save about a third ish overall.

I used to have a 2.5 manual. Overall average was 22mpg. Dropped to 16 to 18 towing a large Hobby caravan and rose to around 25 at 80-85ish. Now have a 4.6 which seems to average around 16mpg rising to a whooppee 18mpg at 80-85ish. Worst I've had was around 13-14 towing a 1/2 ton trailer at around 65. Only had it less than a year though and I don't do much knocking about in it. Try to save it for nice days.....
(Consumptions checked on both the onboard computer and verified with tank to tank topups. I've generally found the computer to be pretty spot on).

RE: P38 DSE
I have had the above since it was 3 years old. It has now covered 180,000 miles. On average it does 20mpg- 22mpg. Cold weather makes a big difference to the consumption. In really cold weather we are down to 18mpg. Simple maths, the tank is 90 litres, divided by 4.546 = 19.79 gallons. 400 miles to the tank = 20.21 miles to the gallon. On long runs to Italy doing around 5000 miles we do around 24 - 24.5 mpg. It has had a new injector pump 5 years ago and it still doesn't change consumption. Towing a tri axle trailer, it is down to 14mpg.

Hi
My 2,5 DSE- 97 auto makes around 24 in avrage, and with very nice driving its 29mpg
But my car is with a K&N air filter and with a Chip so its got around 160 hp now ... ( i hope)
It goes like its a lighter car so i am happy :)

hi, my 2.5 dhse was doing 25 mpg on the moterway until i put on a new air filter and fuel filter, now it does 21mpg does any body why and any ideas

I got my P38 diesel 2 weeks ago. Cruising at the UK legal limit the on board computer was showing 31.9mpg:D:D:D. Over in France on the way home cruising at 135 Km per hour against a headwind it was showing 28 to 29 mpg:D:D. On local stuff (no traffic here) it tells me I'm getting 26 mpg:D. Time will tell if the computer is accurate, I suspect it's a couple of mpg optimistic;).

Hello, mine is a 2.5 manual. I avereage around 17mph heavy traffic to 20mpg around town generally, On the motorway and this was from Brighton to Plymouth it averaged 35mpg which i did not think was too bad.....:D

My manual DSE gave 27-28 until I added chip. Now does 35ish but much nicer to drive too. No heavy traffic mainly rural driving. Moderate caravan drops it to arround 22-24.

my AUTO with a diesel tuners spider system chip gives 20-25 round town
motorway 70-80 mph anything from 31 upwards,i did 190 mile tuesday from j10 m6 to peterborough to fetch passport and used exactly 35 quids worth of fuel.. beat that in ya v8 lol

assuming diesel is £1 a litre, as it is where i live, according to this site you got 24 mpg!!!

and, according to this site, if you travelled in a car achieving 24 mpg for 1000 miles(roughly 5 trips) you would save 112 quid on lpg!!

now we know that lpg cars get less miles to the gallon but even at 13mpg petrol you would be saving £200+ per 1000miles against just petrol alone!!

so who doesnt want an extra 200 quid a month(for medium to heavy users) in thier back pocket?? i prolly save 100 quid a month on fuel!!

stick that in yer diesel pipe and smoke it you planet destroying ****s!!!

I've had my ecu chipped and i get about 30 on a run so about the same as before, but around town I get at best about 24mpg which is much better than before,I towed a 2.7 audi and car trailer yesterday on the motorway and my av was 24mpg,was quite happy with that, chips made it a much better machine
