Are the air con fans designed to switch on as radiator cooling fans if the engine temp rises above normal as i tow a large horse box that makes the engine work especialy in head winds. Temp is always normal when not towing but guage runs higher when towing.

As my a/c has many problems and has never worked for me i was thinking of re wiring the fans as extra summer cooling fans to help whilst towing.

If your aircon isnt working properly, then I think that the fans being on/off wont make any sort of difference.
Something else is rotten in your system.

A common fault is loose wire/s on the pressure switch, which is located on the left hand side near the side of the radiator/condensor. At least on mine, that was one of the problems with the aircon.

When everything is working ok, the fans dont turn on hardly ever anyway.
My aircon has worked fine in Australia, Thailand and Europe (yes same car and a diesel).

If you have gas and no cheque book symbol on hevac unit, then

  1. 1st Check that bloody pressure switch.
  2. Check compressor clutch plate
Its not that complicated really, once you understand it all.
I seriously doubt the condensor fans are the culprit.

Anyway, you got another 12 months to fix it before your summer anyway :)
