hi all, im a new member to this community and hope some1 is out there that can help me with my rangerover 2000my that has the following fault codes and currently is only cranking over with no spark at the plugs.

iv read a few threads and i think i need a engine - Becm synch.

therefore i ask if anyone can help sort this problem out, especially anyone who has a rovacom, or the right gear for the job, im in london, in the holloway area,

rac guy tested the battery and said charge rate is good but the health check is not satisfactory therefore i was told to replace it.

so it brings me to my next question, can i run my vehicle on a deep cycle battery i.e.115ah.

this is because i would like to buy an invertor that converts 12v to 240v, i was looking at a 2000watt or 3000 watt invertor, so if anyone has anything similar carried out please, your advice will be appreciated.

many thanks & i hope to hear from any1 who can help:blabla:

Don't even think about sharing the P38 battery with a 2Kw inverter. The P38 electronics are very sensitive to battery voltage and the drain from a fully loaded inverter would leave you in trouble. If you want to run an inverter, you need a second battery and a split charging system.

split charging system!!! sounds complex, but is it as simple as "a secondary pair of battery wires running from the p38 terminals routed to the terminals of the second battery" if so, any suggestions where to but the 2nd battery, for i have an lpg tank in the spare tyre section.
or can i just replace my p38 battery with a sufficiant Deep Cycle Battery (or any other types) that can run both the car and the invertor?
i heard that there 2 types of invertors 1. Pure Sine Invertor and 2. continuous power invertor

but most importantly my car sill dont start, after the call out dnostic guy just advised could be the immobaliser and suggested that i replace my battery before calling him out again, therefore i need to make a decision on what type of battery and invertor i should buy

Go with the advice above and use a seperate battery for your inverter. Deep cycle batteries and vehicle start batteries have a totally different construction. Horses for courses and all that.
If you are replacing your vehicle battery, get the best you can afford. I went for a diesel spec on my petrol as it's bigger and heavier duty. I can leave it for weeks and it'll still start with no problems. (Probably 'cause they've never heard of 'wireless' stuff where I live. The kids still play with cans and a bit of string....)
Split charge systems are not complicated to install and usually come with all the instructions you'll need. As for a location for a battery, how about a marine type battery box in the boot area? It'd be a good place for your inverter as well.
Not sure what you mean by pure sin converter and continuous power inverter. They should all put out a sine wave but maybe some are much 'cleaner' than others and so generate less electrical noise. I would take continous power as what it suggests - the ability to run continuously without overheating. And that IS a consideration. They do get warm.

Some cheap inverters put out what amounts to almost a square wave rather than a sine wave. Not recomended for powering motors and some electronic equipment. As for power outputs, typically the power quoted on the box is peak power which can be sustained for a short duration 30 seconds or less, actually sustained powere output is around 20% less. The current drain on the battery of a 2000 watt inverter is horrendous. 2kw at 240 volts is a little over 8 amps, 2kw at 12 volts is 160 amps plus any losses in the inverter, or have I got my sums wrong again?

wow, that plenty to consider, right my first step is to buy a battery thats a bosch 70 for 54 pounds and comed with 4 years warrenty, and ill think about the invertor after i get the rr running.

You could whip the becm out & the motronic ecu & bring them down to Brighton, sussex & i'll resync them in for you.
Who was the guy you used & what system was he using?

the guy i used is the local diagnostic chap from a garage who only read and cleared faults and said he tried synching the ecu but because of the battery he replied that i must first replace that b4 i call him again, but he did not say what system he used, i find that he was very closed to what amount of info he would pass on to me. a bit of n arse really, i have been really surprised on the amount of help that comes out of this forum, and am very appreciative for all of your help.

ok the progress so far is that i have just spent £100 on a battery, yes F.. ing expensive and its a 110Ah 750amp bast*ard so it should suffice any battery related issues.
now i have a very king guy coming to help get the rr started tomorow so once this gets sorted tomorow i can then find out what the best way is to tackle this invertor issue and start installing tv's in the headrests and enjoy freeview on the move, yes big plans for this car seeing as my wife now wants another car i need to starrt making this so called "monster" mmore attractive so it safe more more on the long run

time will tell and watch this space and well u get the picture....

hi, just wanted to thank you all for your inputs with my concerns
all of you have been a great help, i have my rr up and running all thanks to J and Dave, so if any of you now of them, they are absolutly brilliant.

there's a lot to learn from here and will be joining more often,

once again, thanks for making my first experience very enjoyable in an unfortunate circumstance
