P0056 Error code

Hi Guys

Need some help and advise.
My Sport Supercharged recently come up with an error code P0056. I have spoken with a mechanic and he said it might not be the O2 sensor it could be something else. I would like to know if this is common? What else can cause this problem? And if i continue to drive with this error code will it cause any further damage to the engine etc?
