Hi all, I'm new to RRs and just acquired a P38.

As per the title, when the car is in park, it shows the LED indicator as being in Reverse and the car won't start.

If I push in the button on the gear selector and press forward the Park LED lights up and the car will start. Moving between the two positions as described also caused the mirrors to dip as they would when Reverse is selected.
It seems to me that the selector is OK but the switch (XYZ switch?) is not adjusted correctly.

I can find vieos online relating to this issue on L322 but not P38 and I understand the set up is very different.

Can anyone point me to a video or pics of the P38 setup please and how do i access and adjust the switch (if indeed it is the case that it needs adjusting)

I get this sometimes but it's not consistent, i think it's dirty connections in the xyz switch on mine.
I also had the gearbox randomly select 1 while driving in D, the selector was firmly in D but showing 1 on the dash.
When it wouldn't select P, I'd leave it in neutral so the ecu didn't see movement and wake the car, draining the battery.

Mine did the exact same thing ,first thing some mornings ,I just pushed the selector back n forth rapidly,,not done it for a while but prob will now .......Would show 1 ,when i put it in d ,,flagged up gearbox fault ,stop engine ,restart all good ,first time it showed its face was in the wintero_O,think it was sticking contacts in the xyz switch  :D..

Sounds like mine might be a different issue to the one you are describing. position 1 is a long way from Park/Drive.

I literally have to just push the button and push the selector forward with gentle pressure and it shows P correctly and the mirrors "undip" from the position they were in because the car "thought" it was in reverse.

I'd really like to know what the linkage and "xyz" switch look like and how to adjust them, preferably from a video but all I can find is videos for other variants such as the L322.

mine does exactly this, but not all the time

it is, but the physical stick didn't move, it was an issue in the switch itself

On the Disco 2 tranny it's two 10mm mount bolts you slightly loosen and then rotate the XYZ switch ever so slightly to get it in gear. Have a helper sitting in the driver's seat move the shifter through the gears after you cinch it down.
Please read the RAVE manual though.
