My P-38 came home on the hook a month ago after not cranking over and I need some help. My key fob is missing the arm button but unlocks with the fob and at the door, arming and turning off the red light on the dash.
First I tested the battery and it was 12.88 with the key off. Then I noticed no Mil light illumination on position II.
After some search's here I disconnected the battery, checked all the fuses including the BeCM fuses and swapped around relays, still no crank over.
Next I removed and inspected the fuse box, cleaning all connections while it was out. I can cycle the starter by closing the contact of the starter relay RL -15 but not from the key.
After more research here I suspected the dreaded '' lost sync of the BeCM so I purchased a Black Box Solutions SyncMate for Gems from the U.K.
This week it arrived and could wait to fire it up.... but no joy, just one red flash.
Yesterday I pulled the seat, removed the BeCM to check for water damage or corrosion but all boards looked dry and burn free, so back under the seat it went after cleaning the plugs and sockets with contact cleaner. My OBD scanner functions normal at the port when connected and there are no codes found.

My question is this; the day before the no start I had a airbag fault on the dash monitor. Could this fault block commutations with the SyncMate and not let it do it's job.

Hoping to use the Rangi to pick up the X-Mass tree in a week:), so I need help. Thanks in advance guys.
Cheers.

Any faults coming up on the dash ?

Yes, ABS fault and window open. I cycled all the windows fully open then closed and tonight cleaned the two connectors under the coolent bottle.
I didn't mention it in my first post but tried starting in P and N, no luck.

Cheers.

Does your dash display agree with your gear selection?
In other words when you select N do you get N on the dash?

Yes, along with a transfer Neutral mesage. I can hear light clicking from the Becm under the seat when I turn the key to postion 3 (start). No check eng light on postion 2 though.

Cheers

You are describing a car that's lost sync, but you say that you have a Sync-Mate.
Is the Sync-Mate the correct one for your GEMS set up?

Petrol or diesel? 12.88 volts at the battery sounds unlikely, is you meter OK? If it has not run for a while I would not expect more than 12.5 volts, could it be 11.88 volts. The SRS message can happen with low battery voltage but it will not stop it starting. What OBD scanner do you have? With the possible exception of the petrol engine ECU no OBD scanner will read any faults on the P38.
It does sound like loss of sync and low battery voltage. Check the under bonnet fuse box for signs or smells of burning.

Yes, I purchased a SyncMate for Gems online from the U.K. listed as a Gems unit from a seller named Zenaxis. The unit has a blue tag with the letter G in the top right corrner and a silver tag showing 16780. I'm asuming the the unit is the correct one as it was listed for a Gems model. The Rangi is a 1997 4.0.

Cheers.

Thank you for the responces guys.
The Rangi is a 4.0 petrol. When I tested the battery the temp here in Cali was 80 degrees and the battery was disconnected, It is a 2 month old battery that I fitted when I bought the car. I just rechecked the voltage with the leads fitted and temp @ 62 degrees and it is 12.54V.
The volt meter is Fluke and tests spot on, the OBD II is a Actron. I just used the Actron to test the connection at the OBD II port with the Ing switched on. (the Actron shows a connection when the key is cycled to possion II.)

I removed the fuse box early on, gave it and the relays the sniff test, then
inspected all the connector blades and plugs, spraying with contact cleaner before refit. I'll check voltage @ the Becm after work today.

Cheers.

Actron I don't know but as all the P38 systems are non OBD compliant, it's unlikely that it made connection with anything except possibly the engine ECU if it's Bosch:D

GF needed our ''running car'' for a business trip today, so I'm sick from work trying to make high mobile unit out of Rangi.:D

Went back to basics and dove as deep as I can seen into the fuse box.
Found some heat discoloration on the fan relay posts, but nothing else found.

Heading back to resemble and try again. As the two relay/connector boards can not be dissembled further for visual inspection. I'll go forward and try again in a hr.

Cheers.

Fuse box back in, but the SyncMate is just giving me one evil red blink.:(
Back to the drawing board.

Cheers, Don

Try putting Syncmate in then turning ignition on. See what you get then.

I put the Syncmate in without the key on and had blue going to 1 red flash.
Please disregard the hand gesture.;)
Then I cycled the key to pos II , nada.
Cheers.

Ok so you are not far away. I used to live in promontory point before moving to lake forest. I am happy to come round and help if you wish. Just pm me your addess and a time.

Just so ya know...that's not me with the pint.;):D

Thanks for the offer mate, but if I can't fix this with some tech feed back on the web and a mulimeter, I shouldn't have the truck.

Thinking back, the day it would not crank, my doors started locking and unlocking a few times while underway at 10 to 20mph. I'm going to look in the the door lock next. Once I get this Fooker running the first pint's on me mate. Now where's that RAVE link?:)

Cheers.
