overnight battery drain

After a couple of months without needing money spending on it the new year has suddenly brought a new problem. The car has run great since the second engine rebuild until saturday morning, when i tried to start it and the battery was completely flat. A jump start got it going and i went to get the battery checked, although this is only 6 months old and it was fine and so was the alternator. Today (sunday morning) it started with no problems, but this afternoon it struggled. So i sat inside and locked the doors, after 2 minutes the little red light on the gear stick went out as the car went to sleep, 5 minutes later it came back on, but this has only happened once. Would this flatten the battery in a few hours?? alternatively can anyone suggest anything else to try.
Hope someone can help.
Oh it`s a 4.6 hse 1996 on lpg/petrol.

You may need to change your RF receiver to PN. YWY500170. If you or a neighbour has just bought a wireless interweb setup or front doorbell or weather station........... Anywhere near 433mhz.

Our wireless internet has been here longer than the car, i don`t know about anyone else around here but we had a new central heating boiler fitted last saturday and the thermostat is radio controlled. I tried switching this on and off while the car was shut down and it didn`t wake it up. Will have a word with the neighbours tomorrow.

Hi.
Put a volt meter across the battery and see what reading it gives you when the little red light comes back on, you may need to " fool " the alarm swith on the bonnet catch. The Eas pump is reenergised every so often to make adjustments to the level of the car, maybe it is doing it too often?
Would be interested to know what it is.

Thanks for all the ideas, Yesterday i did make up some long leads and put my ammeter across the negative side of the battery. After the 2 minutes to shut down the car rested for between 2 and 12 minutes, it then woke up for 2 minutes then the whole thing started again. So i removed the rf receiver and tested the car again, 1.1/2 hours and no waking up, so i have left it off for now. This morning the car turned over like it had got a new battery on it. So i will leave it for a few more days with the rf receiver off and if it`s still ok i will go and get the new upgraded one that you have given me the part number for.

The car has sat for 2 days now and no battery drain so i am going to order a new rf receiver part no ywy500170. Does anyone know how i can tell if they have supplied the correct part number, as the dealers are telling me that if it doesn`t cure it they wont exchange the part untill they have had the car in for tests and confirmed that the rf reciever is at fault. Could they give me the old part in a new box in order to get a few hours easy labour out of me. I am certain this part is the cause of the battery drain but unsure that they will supply the correct part as i am fitting it myself. If anyone has a comparison of the old and new and what to look for on casing or box it would be greatly appreciated.

The box should be sealed. If it isnt dont except it and give them the reason why including what they've said about the part. Its your car and money at the end of the day but you will always get trouble trying to take back electronic parts in case your car frys the new bit which they wont or cant test.

None of the ones I've ever had were. What I normally do is mark the old part first, for example put a scratch on it somewhere inconspicuous. Afterwards you can check to see that your new part really is new. When they have done the work ask for the old part back as well.

To be honest changing the receiver is a trivial task & should take no more than 10 minutes for you to do yourself.

I am changing the part myself, the thing was that the dealers couldn`t guarantee that the new part they were supplying was the new upgraded part or the old part as they were supplying some old parts under new numbers, then if the problem persisted they wanted the car in at my expense to test it. I have now found someone who will guarantee the latest part, so im`e just waiting for delivery now.

Sounds highly dodgy to me. The dealers should be aware by now that microcat did originally specify the older part number incorrectly as a replacement. The part numbers (433MHz) in the correct order are:

ASR1953 -> YWY500010 -> YWY500170.

I have had 2 replacement receivers replaced under warranty, the first didn't work more-or-less straight out of the box & the second one worked ok at first but gradually got worse and worse over a few months, until eventually it was useless. The dealers did try it on a bit at first when I went back, saying that they would have to send the part back for testing etc & that I would have to purchase another new one in the meantime. I found having a look on google for the 'Sale of Goods Act' beforehand to be most useful however, needless to say I got a replacement FOC, and again when that one became faulty.

Just to update i have received the new rf receiver and so far i have had no problems at all with the car systems waking up. So now with that job out of the way i am going to tackle the EAS valve block rebuild.
