Hi all,

The ever reliable (?) 1.8 that we have has been absolutely fine, it does have a multi layered head gasket........until today!

Lots of bubbling water from the expansion tank, cant see any leaks around the cylinder head, however the temp gauge does not appear to move from the middle but both fans are running, which does not happen too often and as the water as it cools down seems to go up and down in the expansion tank, one minute there is none then its full! Although when I was on the way back from town this afternoon it had a loss of power and chugged a bit but caught back up again, depressed the accelerator but just stuck at 3000rpm.

Initial though that the themostat may be stuck and requires a new one or something else?

The wife did borrow it the other day when her car had a flat tyre and it is possible that she revved it a lot when cold?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Does sound like all the common symptoms of hgf..... Just because it's had it replaced previously doesn't mean its bullet proof, after all it is a k series. might be worth buying a test kit just to make certain???

If it's had the prt then reviving it when cold is ok as it circulates the coolant. It does sound like HGF though :(

Yeah there is.

For £40 you can buy another one!

(says the KV6 owner!)

The KV6 is'nt prone to popping HG's on it's own, but it's still at risk if the water level drops due the a leaking stat O ring, or it the stat fails stopping the water circulating, like mine did !! :(
