Hi guys,
just to start off head gasket & waterpump is fine.

I can drive 300 miles & she's fine, but soon as i get on a greenlane thats got an incline she starts cooking, within minutes!

I have a winch bumper (winch not fitted yet), 2" lift & 265/75/16. I have ran this set up with every disco, ive ever owned & had no problems.

This is my 2nd auto and it used to happen to the 1st aswell, Is this just an auto thing? or am i missing something i should be doing i.e mods to cooling or something ‍♂️

Hi.
Were they all D2s and the same engine(Eu2 or Eu3)? do you have additional coolant temp gauges?I have ECT and EGT gauges and fitted once only 5.4% bigger tyres(your's are 9% bigger), the coolant temp went from max 95*C to 110 and EGT up with 250*C just like that in the same ambient, road and load conditions. Such big tyres without a proper remap can affect the engine temperature too, many conditions are involved, some can do it others not. Before starting some complex troubleshooting you should try with standard dimension tyres, since then you can make a simple test first: try to stop the viscous fan with a rolled up newspaper when the radiator is hot, if you can you need a new fan, simple as that

im unsure on the engine, but both were 2003...just never had an issue with manuals, just the autos! Viscus is fine, changed that not too long ago. Although i dont think the electric fan is working, so may be worth checking that out. No other temp gauges, just rising temp & little red symbol comes up.

I totally agree/understand all you have mentioned...Just baffles me as to the autos, do you think a remap would help?

Also someone has mentioned winch bumpers dont help the situation, as they block flow to the gearbox cooler.

The bumper is no factor for the engine temp as long as it doesnt have a bar with spots on it in front of the radiator, the gearbox radiator has nothing to do with the engine temp. The electric fan is supposed to kick in only when the engine gets too hot in extreme conditions no while driving around not even uphill as long as the vehicle is standard.

So its definitely the tire size then isnt it.

Any suggestions as to what i can do? obviously getting the electric fan sorted...As i dont want to go smaller on tire size.

What you really need IMO is a remap and some tuning for those tyres: straight through exhaust, EGR bypass, larger intercooler, meanwhile replace the ECT sensor with new Bosch just to rule it out, they can get ''tyred'' in time, it's not expensive https://www.island-4x4.co.uk/temperature-sender-bosch-err2081-p-36658.html

Yea ill get one anyway...but i could definitely smell the bitch cooking lol, so i doubt it was a faulty reading.

I blanked the egr & ordered a straight thru kit last week, ill have a look about for a bigger intercooler this week.

Thanks very much for the advise, ill drop a little post once i get her all sorted, see how she gets on, cheers bud
