Had a hose blow out on my 2006 L322 a few days ago.

Changing the hose was the easy bit. Trying to get the cooling system to bleed properly has been a nightmare to the extent that it has left me stranded pulling my hair out twice thinking that the engine had blown up.

From cold I added water to the system with the bleed screw open, until it reached the upper level. Tightened the screw up, started the engine, ran it up to temperature. All seemed well.

Next day pottering around town I noticed that the needle was on red! Panicked and pulled over. Engine didn't seem overly hot but I left it alone for a couple of hours and came back to find that the water level was non-existant. Topped it up again with the bleed screw open (took about 2 litres) and drove home. Seemed fine. Day after that, I was driving on a main road watching the gauge like a hawk. All seemed well for 15 minutes then up she went to red again. Started to pull over but the needle dropped back to the middle, so I carried on.

5 minutes later back up to red, with a lot of clattering and banging. No idea what was going on. Pulled over and she cut out dead. Sat there for ages while it cooled down. Topped it up again expecting it to last no more than 2 miles, but she's been fine ever since..... wtf?

Sounds like air locks, normally you fill it up, leave cap off run engine and keep squashing the pipes to burp the air out and keep toping up, I believe Saintv8 lifts the tank up or puts front up on ramps to help get all the air out they can be a right pain in the arse to sort out.
