Only if you can supply 45 Gallons of parafin Tony!!!! (I already have the "Other" stuff):D:D:D:D:D:D

That was an old farmers trick. Don't think i would trust it in the Rangie. Diesels will run off paraffin, only problem is it does not lubricate and things tend to wear out pretty quickly. The TQF or hydraulic oil added to it supplies the lub so they run pretty good off it. Heating oil the same.

Oh Aye .... I used to run my first Disco on Heating oil (35 Sec oil) AND it STILL legal to do so .. (Crown Oils in Blackburn have it in their "Suppliers Contract" ..." Any & all Oil supplied under this contract must be used by the supplied customer only"............. It USED to say "Any & all oil supplied under this contract must be used by the supplied customer only for heating & cooking purposes only"...They deleted the last part in 2005

The company has since gone bust but was bought just before Christmas by the Leeds operation. May be worth calling them as they are the ones likely to have the records.

The BEST news is ... Richard is comin up to Lancaster next week (to see some relatives) .....So I invited him to meet us at Chipping......

The 630r? WHY?

I can't help with any specific reason but the engine conversion Overfinches tended to be returned to customers still requiring some, what is best to call 'bedding in'.

If you end up with one which the original owner has not had fully sorted then subsequent owners tend not to be willing to spend the sums involved in sorting all the bugs and the cars get passed on with their issues.

It was a market I looked at quite lengthily a few years ago before choosing mine and it still took me a year to resolve the original issues and get it fully sorted. It's now running sweeter than probably any other OF but it wasn't an inexpensive period to live though. :D

Aaaah, but yours is a Classic - were the P38's the same?!

Identical.

The other problem is that most customers just went for the engine and badge and some interior trim bits and without upgrading the other mechanicals you end up with something that munches parts almost daily.

The only time to buy one is when the current owner has the full record of what was done by Overfinch and it is every mechanical option, has owned it for more than 3 years and done regular miles each year.

As soon as you find one without sequential MOT docs so you can't see whether it's spent a year sitting still not working, or hasn't had all the mechanical upgrades, or not owned for a good period by the current owner or has no full Overfinch documentation you have to walk away.

They are just like normal Rangies, a good one is worth a lot of money but I would argue that a bad one is worth less than the same car with an RV8 in it.

I see - so Overfinch didn't insist on uprating the other mechanicals but were happy to put a whacking great lump in it? Seems a little shortsighted of them really!

Thanks for your post. Do you think this overfinch is the real deal? I was thinking of coming over to look at it. I need to talk to someone who had a 630r. Does anyone know anyone who has got one or has had one. I want to know what I am getting into.

You're potentially buying a car that you have to finish the development of yourself - might not need much, might be a complete nightmare.

Aside from that, it will use a lot of petrol and (if you listen to some people) the ZF gearbox could be seen as a consumable.

I wouldn't know at all, I'm afraid.

I don't know whether it is the done thing but I would ask the owner to email a scan of the Overfinch docs so you can see what the conversion included. He can always make a copy and write across it before sending so as it can't be used as not intended etc.

What I can't tell you is whether the standard P38 box was the same as the Classic, if so it is essential to get one with the 'Heavy Duty' box. There's a lot of torque and if a previous owner has done any traffic light racing then it won't be lasting long.

4.6 HSE gearbox is different (4HP24 as opposed to 4HP22) and as far as I'm aware there was no Overfinch upgrade for it.

That 630R is the one which was for sale at Marcus Fothergill for quite some time (and ended up on eBay), it's been repainted.
