over heating

Hills with caravan on temp gos up. new rad fitted thermostat remooved.
still no better. so fitted new fan unit. no oil in water no water in oil.
not useing water. i hope new fan unit dose the job.set off to wales to day
will try again tomorow.
any suggestions. A BIG THANKS to you all on hear

With what you've done I'd say perhaps it's time to replace the water pump as well.

Is the rad getting hot all over ?Any of the hoses getting hard ?

put the stat back or the water in the rad wont get a chance to cool its there for a reason

Remove rad and clean out all the fins. If there are any...
If rad looks like it has seen better days then it probably needs replacing.

Very common problem on D1s with original rads.

I've just poked myself in the eye to teach myself a hard lesson to read things properly...

you need to check top hose is hot then feel rad all over its surface ,coolant can pass straight down and out without passing through the rest of the rad and so been cooled ,the fact a parts new doesnt mean its any good

not going to wales now. ok solo, just towing caravan.
Going for a pint or 6 tonight.

temp gage still going up now with no caravan on,
fitted new temp sender unit + thermostat.
could it be gage in dash, rad warm at top cold at bottom.
no water leaks, cab heater ok.

is the radiator and intercooler clean, not plugged, and is the fan working like it should

if the rad isnt hot all over its core then theres an issue with rad or coolant reaching it

I know you've changed just about all of it ...

did you check the rad for even temp feel and have you flushed the engine block well - with all the taps opened ?

the impeler is metal,radiator is warm at the top.new rad 3 months ago,
is there a tempricher sensor on top of head under rubber cover'
the temp needle seems pulse slightly, is it posible for wire to be shorting from temp sender unit.

the fact rads new or any other part doesnt mean they are any good

What he said ^^^^^^ -

some new rads are turning up with no baffles in ...

this mean the water in them doesn't 'flow' properly so that the rad can't do it's job ...

and Murphy has a law if you have never heard of him ... there is the Interweb

Hi temp still going up,
only does it in day light,
could it be a bad earth from engine to chassis,
on the theory the earth going back to temp gage when battery gets charged.
open for suggetion.

Mine ti was over heating when towing the caravan, cleaned my rad and ur was better but not right, fit a new water pump an problem solved,

What pump did you fit? Mine had a plastic impeller one that was fin around town but not ont the m roads, fit a metal impeller one been fine ever since, also check the coolant system if full and free of air, also check the little plastic y piece connector under the header tank isn't blocked, had this on mine when I 1st bought it.

Hi new rad, new metal water pump ,2 second thermostat all new gaskets cilinder head, p gasket ,water pump gasket, no leak on water syrtem,
new tempricher sender unit,all flushed out and filled with antifreez

will renew earth straps on friday.
