Hi folks,
Time to start work on my 109 and get her on the road next spring.

Do you know if it might be possible like this guy in the below link has done and use a viscous fan from a military 2.25 petrol engine rather than an electric fan when converting a 109 from a 2¼ diesel to the 2.5 N/A?

My rear 109 doors are quite shagged. Do you think it might be possible still to find rust free doors kicking about or should I just start patching the old ones up?

90/110 fan, weather viscous or not (I didn't think they fitted viscous) will foul the radiator, that's why he fitted a 2.25 fan. I'd use a standard Series four blade fan.

Probably worth checking Paddocks prices for doors before shopping for used! If the doors are tired the hinges are probably not great either and the Defender '95 on hinges have a washer in them which stops them rusting and wearing as fast!

Not sure how he managed to keep the battery there either, mine's had to go under the passenger seat.

Would the standard Series four blade fan fit without fouling the radiator? Probably a dumb question :doh:


I saw the battery in its original position, witchcraft or the :alien: I’m sure, got to be! Maybe that also explains the fan…

I’ll give Paddocks a go first for the rear doors. I have been told that the costs involved for rear 109 safari doors if I can find them will hurt! I hope I can find a pair as it will take me many a day and night to do a proper job with the ones I have. never mind! All part of the fun I guess :violin:

I fitted a Mk2 Astra fan in front of the Rad on a switch. 320 from the scrappy. I hardly ever need to turn it on.
