Hi all.
I figured a new thread would make sense. I've had some help on another thread about my overheating problem for a 2000 4.6 V8 P38, and I'm now thinking I've either got a blown head gasket or a cracked block.

I'm thinking of my next step, and I'm considering using one of the additive products - k-seal, radweld, irontite etc.

My questions are:
Do these things sometimes work?
Is there a downside - ie do I risk creating a blockage somewhere that could make my problem worse?
Which is the best one to use?

Thanks in advance.

Turtled.

K Seal is the best of the bunch but at best it's only a temporary fix.
As you say your motor is overheating, is it because of coolant loss?

You'll get used to the ribbing Turtle, take it in the spirit meant is my advice. Folks around here are genuinely incredibly helpful and I've gotten out of more fixes than I can list thanks to their help (and occasional kicks up the backside!). Next time that you are trying to get a range of opinions however, try posting a poll. As you're new here you might not have noticed that option when starting your thread. You'll figure it out. :)

is he allowed to do a poll? i thought that was vagrents job:)

Ill try and bring this back on topic.
I used K Seal about 8 months or so ago on a friends MG ZR (head gasket) and it is still holding today. I tried it last month on my P38 Diesel (cracked head) and it didnt work (reduced smoking slightly on tickover)

My advice would be to give K Seal a go, and if it doesnt work you are only going to be £10 or so out of pocket. If it does work then you will have saved yourself at least £500.

I would avoid many of the other products, as they work in a different way and may end up resulting in a block.

Hope this helps.
Barry

some engine buiders are irontiting the blocks after the re-furb as even top hat liners and new gaskets are failing to give certain results. this was in several posts on here if you do a search.
