Open the ECU for GEMS

Dears Good day,

Is there a way how to make the ECU free or open, so i can installed in any P38 GEMS with out synchronize with the BECM. I have heard some thing like that. I have both NANOCOM & Lynx tools. Please help

It can be done. 100%. Don't know how though. If you resync the free ecu accidentally itstops being free!

Which ECU are you talking about? The security code in the engine management computer? If you have a Nanocom you can write that to the BECM and then it will work.

He's asking for a free run ecu. Ie one that would work without a becm. As you say if it's in a p38 just resync the becm ecu code. This would be useful if you were putting the engine in another vehicle type.
I'm guessing you need deep ecu access using diagnostics that's the extent of my knowledge. People sell them on ebay

To override the security feature? There are kits around. I've heard of them. To be honest though, if you're going to drop it into something else then maybe have a play with Megasquirt and see if you can get that to work.

Moons ago, peeps used to swap out an ECU for one that they had keys for in order to try an steal cars, so when the P38 was introduced, they added the 'BeCM to Engine ECU' sync link to prevent peeps from turning up with their own ECUs and matched immobiliser keys and steal the car.....

Whilst I am sure the OP's intentions are good and he wishes to do this for his own vehicle, but be mindful of giving out details of how to bypass security features on a public forum.

Dears Thank you all for your reply. The idea is i am the only one in my area has NANOCOM and some of my friend come to me from around 1000km just to do some small works on their P38. i need to give him one open ECU in order to test the cars by this ecu. By the way i can read the EKA code for any P38 from the becm board,.

Doubt it. If you've got nanocom just do security learn.

I don't think he has the problem as the Nanocom will read all those cars (GEMS module only for the engine and only the WABCO C for ABS). I think he wants to give his friend an open engine ECU so he can test other cars to rule out the ECU? Or maybe an open BECM? You can leave the BECM unlocked (cannot remember if the Nanocom does this but the Faultmate does) but some diag goes a bit funny in that state. An open BECM can have extra settings changed but cannot remember what.

Grrrrrr you are right that is what i want. Nanocom can not open becm fluat mate can do tat as you said. any recommendations please

Sorry, beyond my ken. Given the situation in Libya I can understand why you're asking. I am sure Libya was the inspiration for the gorilla plumber in Terry Gilliam's Brazil film.

@martyuk might have an idea but I think best done by PM given Saint's concerns.
