Oops - took my v8 RRC swimming !!!

Whooo - She lives! Didnt realise how much id missed the V8 burble lol - been kicking it down all over the place just to hear it roar :)!

Gearbox isnt completely happy - few issues...
1. Very stiff gear shift! prob sand in the cable :( greased it for now so shouldnt snap anything then evertually fit a new cable depending on price.
2. milky fluid again :(
3. rarely seleted 4th gear and only did so on hard acceleration.
4. the transferbox/autobox coolant light is on
5. No speed.

Now im hopin 2-5 are related and due to water being in there but time will tell. VSS was bit wobbly before i tried to teach her to swim so will replace it either way.

Apart from that - she drives perfect - if not better than before ! apart from my soggy seat!!!
 
You say no speed? do you mean no speedo? if that is the case then the speed sensor is likely to need looking at and probably replaced. If speed sensor is not sending a signal the ECU will get upset and EFI warning light should come on - this tends to cause an unstable idle because the ECU won't know when to switch idle stabilisation on and off.
 
Think i need to check my bulb on the EFI light - havnt seen it before but it sounds like i should have lol! Yer i mean the speed needle doesnt move at all!

Idle is iffy when cold and stalls unless tickled but then fine ish wen its warm!
 
Could the cold idle stall be the filter/pipes in the gearbox? Also, have ye cleaned the stepper motor and the flame trap thingy. Really easy. RAVE shows how.
 
Havnt cleaned the flame trap thingy or stepper yet. But will do at the moment im happy with the engine its just the g'box im worried about! However its stalling on immediate start up before ive even had time to select gear.

Gonna keep flushing it with fresh ATF through it in the mean time but it should be ok shouldnt it? Presumably people have dunked their ZF 22's before and i cant find any horror stories online so thats a good sign yer? Going to change the filter soon also togive her a fighting chance!

I dunno 'bout gearbox but lack of idle says to me you need to try resetting the ECU. I say this because you said somethong about not having a speed input so ECU doesn't know if idle stabilisation is supposed to be on or of so disconnect battery then re-connect or just take off the main EFI harness plug from the ECU then put it back on. Also, check the base voltage on the throttle potentiometer. If throttle pot is incorrectly set the engine won't idle properly. If base voltage is too low, the engine will stall when accelerator released.
 
If you've run ATF a couple of times it should be okay for the moment. After cleaning the flame trap, crank-case breather and stepper mine runs at idle much better and starts just the thing.
 
Mmmmm, I wonder if there is a load of crud in the inlet? might be worthwhile taking off the plenum and having a look and giving the thing a thorough clean out with carb cleaner and as I often post, check throttle disc setting and that the vac ports are clean and clear.
 
I clean the flame trap with petrol or white spirit. you'll be amazed and the crap that comes out. Put the gauze from the trap in a jar and put some petrol\white spirit in. The crank case breather is just a wee sponge that costs 50p. mine was thick with gunk.
 
Found 4th gear/overdrive again - knew i had it in a box somewhere lol. Changes smoother than ever at the moment - cant really tell its changing at the moment! Ive accidentally put it some expensive ATF MV so we will see if thats the reason for the change!

Running abit lumpy again though so defo gonna start doing the flame traps etc soon.

Whilst ive got ur attention, are there any other high mileage sort of things that i should go through - you guys know more and are easier to use than RAVE lol.
 
D'oh - Finally got some LPG in her today and she wont run :(. Narrowed it down to the solenoid/relay in the diffuser isnt working - the filter one clicks nicely but the others dead - checked continuty/voltage etc and its as it should be so how do i go about fixing it?

PS tried hitting it with a hammer !
