  1. Hi all. First post on here. I've had my discovery for about 3 months and yesterday went to an off road pay and play.

4 wheel drive seems to be working fine in high range but in low range I only have drive from the front wheels.

Has anyone had the same issue and fixed this or am I a complete novice and doing something wrong ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

wasnt your control kicking in, without center diff lock all drive to all wheels can be lost if one wheel is spinning, you probably notice it more in low box as wheels will have more torque and so can spin easier

What makes you think that is the case, cos it doesn't sound possible to me.

Trying to get up hills in low range just wouldn't happen but could get up in high and someone watching said I had no drive in the rear wheels, I have the 3 amigo's on the dash, I've had it plugged in and says front left abs sensor which I have a replacement for but haven't got round to fitting it yet

NOW we're getting down to it!
And don't hold your breath if the new sensor doesn't fix it. Sadly!
But that hub is certainly a good place to start.;)

So can we assume you are 1 of the unlucky ones who doesnt have diff lock? I dont know the disco 2 but belive some do and some are just missing the linkage.

I think there are three variations!
Have it.
or
Have it but no connection to the lever.
or
Don't have it at all!

I think mine is the middle one but have never checked as TC seems to be OK. :(

With a current ABS sensor fault the TC is disabled so dont expect too much without central diff locked. The hi/low selection would affect only the torque nothing else
Going up a hill the centre of gravity would be pointing more towards the rear if you see what I mean. So in low range, spinning wheels would be easier on the front, not so much weight to hold them down.
In high ratio it would be like taking off on ice, on the flat in an ordinary two wheel drive, manually geared car where you put it in 2nd or even third to get grip.
Does that make sense?
You also haven't told us if this car is auto or manual. But I get the feeling that it is more likely to be auto from what you have said so far.

So you think once the abs sensor is fitted and lights are off this will solve the issue ?

How do i know if I have it or not ? I have low neutral high I know earlier models have high and low with option for lock or not

Does you high-low lever move sideways too:) show us a pic. but you would see it to be honest if it was there. and it sounds like you dont.

To check the rest of the variations all I know is to feel around underneath but you need to know where and what your looking for.

Do a search on here for CDL D2 and you will find lots of info on what to look for.

Sound like weight transfer to me combined with broken traction control. I personally would use diff lock, but you may not have it.

? that would account for front wheels spinning, but torque at the wheel is why i shows in low box and a good lesson that you should usually use as higher gear as practicable and low box only when essential
