One thing leads to another

Thought I'd do timing belt soon as weather turns better. It's done 114000 Had it two year. Don't know when if any time it was changed. Thought well if I'm doing that, i may aswell take off cylinder head refurb it ( nothing wrong with it) But thought it won't do no harm. Plus I can have a good look at the turbo. Sort that out if need be. Now I'm thinking if I go that far should I take the engine out altogether and do the lot. Hmmm Thoughts please. :bored:

Gawd, if it's a service item like the belt replace it. If its not broken or a service item, like head and turbo don't touch it because they are not service items.

old saying springs to mind "if its aint broken dont try to fix it"
i,m a great beliver in getting the belts changed [inc aux drive belts] changed at or before the recommended interval

If its not broke dont fix it , if it smokes service it and do all sensible mods like EGR blank , inspect your inlet manifold and clean if needs be , all cost next to nothing , I take its a 300 , check all cooling system components especially rad and water pump etc ..

taking my head off this week as it has a mis and is sending pressure up the inlet tracked. all stuff here including new vavles. I've done everything else that you are thinking of doing. the only reason i can think of to take the head off would be if yours still has the egr fitted,would be to clean all the burnt on gunk on the valves, but to be honest if its running right leave it alone until you need to remove it due to hg failure

If you need to clean the valves take it for an "italian tune-up"

114000 is nothing,only just bedded in

Nice cheers for advice guys. will be leaving head alone. EGR already done and new silicone hoses. Not a great deal of smoke. Will do belt soon as weather turns. concentrate on new cv joints and swivel housings as well. 114000 thats what it says on the clock but i'm not convinced of that. Oh yea It's a 300 tdi xs. If I had a garage it would be stripped right down and built from scratch. But no got to work on front of my house.

Doing the same to mine this week aswell as replacing an inlet valve
