the eu directive is the 1995 rules for type approval ... that only applies to a manfacturer wishing to sell a new model in an eu country whereby you need type approval for the new model, the only uk rule (road use not mot) is that the tread must be covered when viewed from above..... mud flaps I thought were only on 7500kg and above although I would have been wrong as it turns out its max gross 12,000kg and above...

64.—(1) Save as provided in paragraph (2), this regulation applies to every wheeled goods vehicle which is—

(a)a motor vehicle first used on or after 1st April 1986 having a maximum gross weight exceeding 12,000 kg;
 
It's not a vehicle I would want to own, but it looks epic! It certainly is a head turner and an extremely impressive project. The quality of the workmanship and attention to detail is superb. I agree with meego, it should be on the cover and featured in one of the LR magazines. Well done, Steve. :)
 
Amazing...Amazing...Amazing...Amazing...Amazing...did i say Amazing??? I went through all the threads of Steve and can't find a list of all the main pieces changed for anyone else who would like to do something similar - is that available somewhere??? AMAZING!

Spray suppression devices are not the basic mudguards and mudflaps they are a special type of flap and mudguard for application as mentioned HTSH

Interesting and probably nice, technically, but no thanks, it wouldn't get down most lanes we drive. I don't see the point of a Defender purely for the road.
 
That is an absolutely brilliant Defender mate, made even more impressive from the fact it's a home build.
Would love something as like that to drive. Credit to you fella, hope to see it in a magazine soon.
