While laning at the weekend my mates shock turret broke on a lane, all was ok, simply removed it and welded it back up when we got to camp, just to get him home.
It made me think about a mobile welder. I've got a 300tdi with no air con. I could put an alternator there and rig a belt if/as and when I needed it..

for the price of an 'ebay' alternator, some welding cables, a belt and tensioner and fabricating a mounting plate - a field welder!
