Since getting another landy on the road, I am getting loads of old engine and gear oils etc. Rather than take it to the tip for disposal, I was wondering what uses are there for it..?
I have used it before to help start bonfires.
Put rusty old tools in it to help work again.
Used to paint on chassis's to prevent rust.

Anyone else got other uses for it..?

paint the garden fence?
does work as weed killer but there are better things...very pretty when it rains too!

Yes, it's a great wood preservative. Gives you a lovely sheen as it matures. You might be in trouble these days if you were to do it right next to a public road or footpath, but in out of the way places it's OK. I used to stand fence posts in a drum of the stuff for a while before banging them into the ground. The other day I saw some that were still holding up a fence i put up 30 years ago.

Put a burner in your garage,my mate has one, runs on old oil keeps his workshop warm even on the coldest days.

I painted a gate that I made poured water down it and the water just runs off. done 2 good coats on a hot day and the wood sucked the oil up good and propper very good will do all my fences next time

if you've got rust on your leaf or parabolics suspension, mix some with petrol and soak and wrap a rag around them, the petrol helps the oil get into the tightest spots then once it evaporates the oil stays there resulting in nicely oiled suspension

:D

I keep my fences nicely dark brown with that Idea..

before I moved to my present home,
I kept my previous fences alive for over 25 years by painting in the hot summers with old oils mixed with a bit of new hydrolic borrowed from work, plus some mock creosote all mixed.
the fence was there before I moved into that home,
We were there 25 years,
none of the harris rails nor the feather edge rotted in all that time either.
