hi, guys n girls.I have the chance to buy a one owner, "W" reg,TD5, 41000 mile disco, with full main dealer service history.Never been off road. Ive seen the car but not driven it yet. Car looks spotless. The only reported fault from the vendor is a flashing fuel filter light(new filters fitted) I read in this forum about dodgy gearboxes, clutches, brakes, etc.....
Any advice please (run a mile or buy with confidence)
Could do with a fast reply.
thanks

hi teddy killer, asking price from my local garage is £5500 the exact model is td5 series2 gs
thanks ceetee

hmm... low mileage - what's it been used for? lots of city driving could suggest clutch, etc. will wear out sooner.

Low mileage on a 10 year vehicle is good but not great.

Though - less with the old please, i consider my W reg disco as new. The series, now, that is old :)

There are many things that could go wrong as with any car, but generally compared to other manufacturers, some parts are cheap. You need to look for the usual stuff when buying a car. A drive should help you alot. Also get underneat it. Does it have ACE? If so check the conditions of the Pipes which run under the car. These rust and looking at the age of that car, its prime rust time. These can cost >£1000 to change, or can be converted.

hi robpenrose, going for a test drive tommorrow, will contact the previous owner to find out how much work the car has done.Considering having a full RAC inspection done if it drives ok.Have learned a lot from this site in one afternoon ie.transmission shunt, rusty door bottoms, wheel arches, tailgates, clunks from suspension, heater matrix problems the list goes on.maybe i should buy a kia sorento!!! Is there anyone out there who has owned a td5 series 2 without having to fork out money for giant bills? eh eh

Pay peanuts you get monkey's.
Land rover's are a way of life, go buy a sorento & see what you get then................a pile of sh*t

The very nature of most forums would suggest that many are populated by members asking about problems with thier motors, so in this respect, the answer to your question is NO.

Also depends what you mean by " giant ".

My 2002 TD5 has cost me about £ 1000 pounds in parts in the 3 years I,ve had it. ( that excludes tyres, mot, servicing ).
This was between 60 and 90k miles.

Still less than a replacement turbo on my 3 year old VW van !.

You have to be very forgiving when owning a Landrover, as they do go wrong and cost to fix, but theres nothing like having one, theres no other motor like them.

You,ve only got to look at the recent bad weather. Landrovers leading from the front !.

Del.
