hi everybody i need some help with our td5 its on a 02 plate, we brought the landrover about 2 weeks ago and the oil transmission light keeps coming on and off, so the first thing i did want to drain the oil and replace with new oil, i chose i good quality oil, this has made no difference though the light comes on and off, i did notice on changing the oil it did look like a dark brown colour, there dose not seem to be anything wrong with the auto gearbox it changes gear nice up and down, and we have been using the landrover daily and have had no problems, i am just worried there might be a underlying problem i dont no about.any help would be great.

Sounds most the like the sensor. That's the Next point of elimination. I had a very similar problem. Bought a good quality sensor and cured it. I also change the wire connector at the same time

it is if its not changed, its worth doing yearly , you only change 1/2 of the oil at one time, box is better on clean oil, its the dirty oil that will damage the box

No I changed what came out witch was about 2 1/2 litres, I undone the drain plug on the bottom and waited till it stopped and then refilled it by the other plug on the side entill it started to dribble out, I brought a 5 litre bottle and used half of the bottle

should have got a least 4 litres out and put back the same , you fill till it overflows level plug then start engine with box in neutral and keep filling till it overflows again, box holds about 9 litres from dry, which it never is once filled as you can only drain about 1/2 out at a time

Ok so it seems that I could have under filled the box then, I will have to do it again and follow your method than you

Ok thank you so I maybe 2 litres short then, I will drain it again and start again, I can't do it till next weekend now so hopefully it will be ok to run around for the week.

Why drain it again ?

Maybe as a flush ?

Try checking the level, top up as required, drive normally for a month, then change it. - thoughts ?

Yes as a flush as the original oil that came out was a dark brown colour, so I thought draining it again will be better as to try and flush out the old oil
