Hello Guys & Gals
I posted the other week, but thought I'd update & ask a few more questions.

Car in question is a 300TDi S Reg Disco, 99K miles.

I drove 225 miles towing a 1.6T trailer last week, and at the end of it the oil pressure light was flickering one and off. I pulled over, checked for the obvious, loose wires,no oil leaks and the dip stick showing between low & high. I re-started, this time no flickering lights. I limped to the garage, and tipped in a litre of oil on the basis it wouldn't do any harm, and I had only 15 miles to go to get home.

At the weekend, I serviced the lanny, Oil change, Filters etc. Oil was 15 W 40 Semi synthetic, although not the same semi synthetic oil I usually use, every 6,000 miles.

Today, again flickering oil light after 230 miles (no towing), although 99% of the time its off. Oil is between high & low on the dipstick.

The light came on whilst driving up a relatively steep hill.

Should I tip in some more oil, an oil treatment (Wynne's ?) or what ...any ideas ?

there was talk of pressure relief valve issue, I'd suggest a proper oil pressure test and it could be as simple as a knackered oil pressure switch. esp if it is leaking oil out of it

Assuming that I've understod correctly and it is the engine oil light coming on, I would replace the oil pressure sensor which is on the oil filter housing, as these are a known weak spot.

They cost peanuts as well:D:D.

PRC6387 Oil pressure switch - 300TDI

Good luck.

PS 15w-40 is a bit thick for UK ambient temps, might I suggest you try 10w-40 next time?

PPS Be careful about putting in too much oil, this WILL do harm to your engine. Keep it between the marks then you are using the std benchmark. If you still have trouble it ain't cos you haven't go the right amount of oil, it's something else.
