Just noticed a damp patch on my rubber mat under the clutch pedal, had a feel and its an oily residue, checked the clutch and there is also an oily residue on the arm
Any ideas? Whats the cure? Is it hard to do?

If its the same as 300Tdi's, and I would have thought it will be, it's sounds like your clutch master cylinder thats fooked, about £30 ish and a couple of hours work, not really a big job, I managed mine;);) have a search through Busters guides, i'm sure theres one for a master cylinder. I dont know owt about Td5's, but i'm assuming there isn't much difference from a Tdi. I'm sure someone will be along to either agree, or tell me i'm wrong :p:p:p;)

you will need to replace master cylinder as that where it leaks ,usually easier to undo 6x bolt holding pedal box in and replacing with pedal box off vehicle, make a special spanner by cutting a slot to go over rod in ring end of combination spanner ,dont over adjust as it can stop fluid returning to res properly

Thanks guys, thats what I thought. my haynes manual makes ref to repairing the cylinder with new seals etc and I see kits online for doing this.....would you recommend this or go for a straight replacement?

cheers

yep, going to replace the full cylinder, bit of a price difference between genuine LR (£77) and some of the other aftermarket ones ranging from £15 to £40ish...........being a tightarse what aftermarket make should I go for?
