Hello, to cut a long story short, was driving along the dual carriageway when I lost power and pulled over to what sounded like a tyre had gone, the car expired in a cloud of smoke, oil had been forced out of various places including the filler cap.

After standing overnight there was a lot of fluid on the dipstick, too much if all of that black fluid was oil leading me to believe diesel had got in there, it's at the garage awaiting inspection but just trying to get a grip on what it might be, cheers, Gaz

You won't be looking for a front foglight switch for while then?

:D

Only way diesel can get in sump is if front seal has gone on FIP.

Yeah, that happened at a place where I used to work, apparently the resulting explosion sent shrapnel across the workshop... What's the FIP? Cheers, Gaz.

Ah nice one, they replaced an injector not long before they sold it to me, could it be related? Also does it mean curtains for the engine if this has gone? Many, many thanks.

as it didnt run on you may be lucky.

if they replaced the injector my mind rang a bell which sounded like "completely blocked injector blew the balls off the fip"

Nope. Diesel can only get into the sump if front seal on FIP has failed. Changing an injector would not effect that.
