Well if ya oil is topped up then deduction tells us that ya not low on oil.
So what else could cause the oil light to come on.Lots but we'll start off with the easy stuff such as a lack of oil pressure.We know theres oil in it so maybe the lack of pressure is due to the pump not pumping enough.Hence me earlier comment, it is possible the oil pump is knackered and therefore needs replacing.However that said i am currently eating a sausage sarnie in me bed and have never seen ya motor so I might be wrong.
Finally, as daft suggests dont drive it any more.Oil is quite a useful thing to internal combustion injuns:doh:

as the lads have said, poss lack of oil due to your pump being knackered,
hence the tapping.could even be the oil pick up clogged?
but you need to stop driving it and get it checked before you bugger your lump

Yup - Oil light coming on, ESPECIALLY when accompanied by "tapping" "knocking" or similar unusual noise is one of those "oh ****" moments where you stop immediately, turn off the engine and don't drive it until you have resolved the problem, because if you don't , the problems (and cost) escalate exponentially.

the pump wont just stop entirely, it will however brake due to wear and tear graduly.But once its is less than effective time to get rid

Maybe same reason some people ask a question, get an answer they don't like, so carry on regardless, later adding snippets of information, and still don't listen or act upon the answers given ... it's a strange world.
Seriously, are you for real? You've got an oil light coming on, you've got a tapping noise going on, the advice says don't run the engine, and check out/change the oil pump and oil pick-up ... and you carry on driving, thinking that somehow it might be OK 'cos the light and noise went off.
WHY DON'T YOU LOOK AT THE ANSWERS GIVEN ???
It won't fix itself fercrissakes ... For my money, I now agree with TMHM.

Sorry for the minor league rant ... in similar circumstances I've just had _exactly_ the same argument with my boss, though she's in a merc car.
She's driven off with the oil light, engine warning light, in fact a feckin' christmas tree of lights on, a LOUD rattling noise and billowing smoke out the exhaust, with a wave "It'll probably be OK till I get home" ... about 18 miles away!!!!
I did ask if she had AA/RAC, she didn't believe me, merc's don't break down!!
I fully expect a call to tow her home within the hour, for which I am now unavoidably detained.
