not sure wether this should be in the 200tdi section, but it is a series vehicle, anyway we will try here, just got 200tdi fitted into series 2 and had it running today, then i noticed oil coming out of joint between bell housing and the ladder frame, i had checked the crank oil seal prior to fitting and it was dry with no signs of leakage, i have noticed that this engine has come out of a series as its got the stud removed on the bell housing, allso it hadn,t had the four strencthaner bolts fitted to it as they wern,t countersunk, i have fitted these for bolts but wonder weather the seal around the casing to block had been damaged with running it without the bolts, iv'e sent for a new origanal crank seal but wondered what your thoughts are some say use silicon on the casing to block seal

should run ok with or without bolts earlier 2.5s have no extra bolts and they manage rear main bearing cap joints are favourite leak points ,a new block to flywheel housing gasket may help err1440

took engine out today and on inspection the crank oil seal was completely shot, not even any sign of the spring that usually wraps around the seal, so just waiting for delivery of my land rover genuine seal

got my so called genuine seal today from buckley brothers, and it looks more flimsey than the £2.50 one they first sent, it is sprayed green and it has a plastic fitting tool but ther are no id/part number/ or maker, should the genuine part have some kind of i/d?

Did you fit the engine to the gearbox already in situ or did engine and gearbox get coupled outside and then go in together? Sometime if you are putting in separate its hard to get it perfectly true and the joint not under strain

I bought my rear main seal from Turner Eng. as they sell genuine Dowty seals.
Apparently genuine Land Rover ones are of poor quality at the moment and soon leak. Dunsfold & Turners both suggested this a few months back.

ok, i have tried to get a genuine land rover part from hunters land rover at derby, guess what they didn't have one, so rang direct land rover services at wirksworth in derbyshire i asked the guy for a genuine part and he only had the green one that comes with a fitting plastic sleeve and no i/d markings, wich i allready have, so i have two new seals and feel paranoid about wich one to fit, looking at the state of the one i took out the green variety i thought the orange/brown one was/looked far more substantial better build quality and has an internal spring like a proper seal, anyway have bit the bullet and its fitted now and seems fine (no leaks ) yet

yes its the brown one i have fitted, seems to be a massive difference in price between the britpart green one and the land rover one, i think its a lottery, because the place is flooded with cheap pattern parts

the brown type is just the type they used before dowty seal was used both types work ,oil oftn leaks from the rear main bearing cap joints hence the use of the gasket on 200 tdis
