Hi guys

I seem to have an oil leak and its really annoying me it's makin a right mess. I think it is an engine leak so I got some "Wynns Engine Stop Leak". So my question is am I wasting my time. I don't know much about engines and things but is it expensive to fix an oil leak I know it could depend on were the leak is.

Cheers

Hi

Which engine do you have and where is the leak coming from?

How have you come to the conclusion its engine oil?

Get under it with a torch and some rags, and a mirror if required, steal the wifes one, and find out where its coming from.

Dont fook about with all that ****y stuff sort it properly, most oil leaks are because something has failed, like a seal, or something has come loose like a turbo return pipe etc.

If it's making a right mess then you must be hosing engine oil into it, if you aint then odds on your gearbox or summut is gona blow up coz it's running out of oil.

I'd be really wary of using wynns on your freelander engine, especially if it's a td4. the tolerances are so fine, and the turbo relies on a good flow of oil. all the wynns is going to do is start clogging stuff up. you may stop the leak, but your joy will be short lived.

I know it seems like a cheap fix, but believe me, it's not. Bite the bullet now and sort it out properly.

hi there check it is not a drive shaft seal common on front shafts mate uesd wynn on oil car wont stop leak on seals under preasure mate.get it sorted could be come more costly.cost will depend ware it is could just be lose pipe or split or engine seal gone good luck mate

Had a similar problem with my L series. Some of the sump bolts were coming loose, the oil filter was not turned on tight enough (by Landy dealer) and the oil pump pipe connection to the oil filter housing was loose. Tightened these up and no more oil leak. Worthwhile taking a look, but best to take the under tray off first so that you have decent access.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the great responces, the oil that is leaking out is black like dirty oil. Not sure if it is true but I was to gear box oil doesn't get dirty. I m gonna get it on the ramps tomorrow and get under and have a look. it's a 1.8 2003 and it's stressing me out. I have only just got it back after having the petrol pump replaced. also the drop links need replacing, I only got the car last December and it's been nothing but trouble. There is no way I m getting rid tho I saved up for this car for ages.

Hi guys

update/question

I have had a good look under the car today and found the leak it is between the engine and gearbox. So the question is how much do you guys think it will cost? and has anybody experianced this themselves?

Cheers:confused:

That's not good news. Unless the oil is running down from a leaking rocker cover gasket and appearing under the engine where you can see it, it's probably the rear crankshaft oil seal. Before long your clutch may start to give problems too if oil gets onto it. Engine out job to replace the seal I believe. I'm not that familiar with the K series engine, it's so rubbish I won't go near one!
