Freelander 2 (LR2) Oil leak

Hi thanks for letting me join, this is my second Freelander I now have a 2012 SD4 which has been fantastic, regularly serviced but I have been told I have the dreaded rear crank seal oil leak, spoke to a mate about this and after saying that I regularly check oil level and haven’t had to top engine oil up he said it can’t be the rear crank seal, any suggestions welcome

There's only 2 places where oil can leak out of the bell housing, either the crank seal or the gearbox input shaft.

As to if you need to top up the oil, that depends on the severity of the leak.
