The car has an oil leak looks like from the dip stick or the pipe just above it. Would either of these be bad enough to soak the belly pan and drop all over the drive ? Is this a common leak? I changed the seals on the dipstick and wiped it since that picture to see if it leaks from there now

Pressure from dipstick is bad news. Usually the engine breather filter is blocked. High pressure in the oil system can blow seals Inc turbo etc. I would suggest checking breather filter which is t rear of engine just in front of air filter. Cover held on with 5mm allen bolts. Either replace foam filter or upgrade to BMW cyclone filter which is covered in detail on this forum. Search will find it.

High priority repair needed to avoid damage.

I would also do something about the intercooler hose from the turbo boost valve in the photo's they do not look healthy at all, PCV filter is an easy job should take no more than 20 minutes, getting the air filter cover back on can sometimes be a problem due to the channel end being damaged, so always check that before refitting.

Thanks for the pictures know exactly where it now great help. As for the intercooler pipe is it best to get genuine ones or upgrade them to silicone ones?

As above depends if you want to have an outlay for Silicone, I changed mine for Silicone, I also changed my Injector T pieces for the brass ones, It would also pay to clean the manifold , EGR, & MAP sensor, maybe even add an EGR bypass, with an original gutted one. ;)

I went for silicone, simply because I found a full set for about the same money as a set of standard rubber pipes. Ignore all the BS that silicone will resist swelling and improve throttle response, as this is just marketing hype. Silicone will last longer, although if the original have lasted over a decade, then a set of rubber will outlast the vehicle. ;)

Ok I will have a look. I'm doing all this work for the missus to use it as a daily driver for her job, she does alot of running around. I'm thinking this car isn't going to last is it. How long do these td4s last till they die? It's got 122k on the clock

Artic2 thanks for the pictures I will take it all off and clean it all out looks like that we be a job to do at least once a year from now on

A proper clean & a bypass EGR original should last 3-5 years before a need to clean again, the TD4 M47 engine can and as done 379,000 the same engine is in the Rover 75 MGZT & MGZT-T the club I am with as a thread about moon miles & the bench mark to post on the thread is 200.000 plus, there are quite a few believe me, I am not a million miles away from the Wolves, :)

Ok it's something I will keep on top of see how many miles the missus gets out of it. I live 5 mins from them statues drive past them every morning to to work. I'm a Leeds fan always think of putting a Leeds scarf on there just for giggles but know it will be burnt soon as some one sees it haha

Spurs fan myself, but not been to a footy match now since 1978/80 that scarf was put on by some moron :D saw it when I was driving past so pulled in by the shops and took a few photo's it was gone the next day, we have R40 meets at the Four Ashes pub 6 times a year a few owners with FL1 come you are welcome too.

Hopefully we will be playing spurs next season we shall see. Ok sounds good would I be welcome turning up in my 19 year old shogun sport? The Freelander is the missus car and as much as i like It now ( I was not keen when she 1st bought it a week ago) I doubt she will ever let me drive it

Yes you can park at the top end of the car park just out side the gate of the field we use, you could always say to your wife that it needs a little fettling & she may let you use it, this was mine until 2017 when I passed it on to a fellow member of our Rover 75 club.
