Reet. Ave got messel a bit of an oil leak. Trouble is, I don't know where its coming from. Seems to be coming from somewhere behind the timing belt case, an you can see it dribbling out as you look at the engine from the passenger side just behind the alternator. Its not coming from the dip stick. Its coming from somewhere further up. Has anyone got an exploded diagram off the rave cd so we can see if there are any seals or gaskets in that area of the engine?

Aye. Thass why I need an explodidid diagram so I cun get a betterer idea of where iss comin from. :(

try to see if its comin from the headgaskit .... duz the oil stain start where the cylinder head and the block meat .... in other words is the cylinder head stained with oil aswell or just the block ...... it dont mean cylinder head off yet cos it could be somethin quite simple , so dont panic but please try not to run it till someone has a close look ....

Looks like it cud be comin from there aye. I int rilly sure.

no panic really .... even if it is yer cylinder head gaskit its no big deal .... at this point no damage has bin done so yer biggest problem is an oil leak . but you need to check that timin belt asap .. and it could be somethin as simple as a 50p gaskit thats leakin , better that than a timin belt ..

Is there an oil port at the front ov a 300 tdi head ?

i never really work on 300tdi before so i aint sure . i know the front aint the same as my 200tdi but thats about it .....

mondo ... them yorkshire puds in yer avatar are makin my mouth water ..... mmmmmm yorkshire puds :D

is it the camshaft seal?

If it was ya head gasket surley it would be running hot and the water resivout bubbling like a good un

or oil coming out of the exhaust and when ya took the oil filler of smells like diesel .

Have you recently put some oil in it by any chance?

Cos, if you did and it has started leakin, it's cos there weren't any oil in it before so you didn' notice the leak... :)

My NA leaked from the head gasket for ages, only after a long run though, cos some oil got under the gasket when i loosened the head to take the pushrods out, and then I never managed to get it to seal completely again. Didn't affect how it ran though, i just ignored it. Then a had to replace the engine...

Thankyou Ian. Will have a good look at it when I get a chance. Me tax was due end o this month so I think it'd be a wise move to SORN the fooker till I've found out what the problem is! When we took the oil breather off, there was eggsauce fumes coming out the hole. And there was a fair bit of white smoke coming out the eggsauce pipe when we fired it up. Its never had white smoke before. So summats definately amiss somewhere. Temp gauge has been knackered for a month or two. But I was religiously checking the oil and water and it never seemed to me to be running hot. We took the timing belt inspection cover off to have a look to see if there was any black mucky injin oil in there but cudn't see any. So anyway, looks like I've got a lot to keep me occupied with for the forseeable future..!
