oil in expansion tank!

hi all,i have just brought myself a 02 td4 freelander cheap as it has oil in the expansion tank and has stopped running,

i think the head gasket has gone but after a search on here and can't find any with head gasket problems!

so either they are rare or i am crap at doing searches!!

any help or advice would be greatly apprietiated

oh yes it has done 88,000 miles and good service history if that helps.

How did it stop running, was there any warning or symptoms?

hi chaser,not sure about any problems prior to this as only just brought it and picking it up thursday.

but reading the thread you gave me (thanks by the way) it could possibly be the oil cooler.

will post more info when i get it home and have a proper look.

it was only £900 which seemed v cheap so i don't mind spending a few pounds on it.

£200 would of been more like it.:doh:

you don't think £900 is cheap for a 02 td4 es?
granted it might need a engine but £200 won't even buy you a decent set of tyres these days and the fl does have 4 good ones

ill get you a V8 with auto box for it if yer like....

its alot of work but yes..

I'd be tempted to get it stripped down and rebuilt if you can afford it. There's nothing like having a sound engine under the bonnet and TD4's are usually bombproof!

its a real mans conversion,are you up for it if so will get you cheap engine and box cos mate reckons yer mad to take that on...
