Some people,
(You will enjoy this) https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/help.341584/
like to eat spring rolls crying to Jeremy Kyle because of the cost of TV licenses while they wait for the warranty to run out on their L405.

Looks nice, plenty for you to clean. Don't worry about head gaskets, liners and empty header tanks - they are the norm for you now on. Good luck ;)

Just read through that one, thanks, that was funny. I'll be sure to keep my fingers off the keyboard when I get to sorting those out.

It's Alive..!!!!
Good Lord it fired up. Had a bit of a mess around with the EKAcode not going in, battery on ok but couldn't get it to accept the code. Think I narrowed it down to the driver door lock not picking up the key turns possibly. So removed it, cleaned and reinstalled and entered first time, then it actually fired up on the first key turn. So much for six year old petrol, (thank you everyone here who said not to worry about it..)
Ran a bit juddery for a minute or so then calmed down, didn't leave it going too long just in case, but all good first impressions, no leaks, no smoke, no fires, just lots of dead livestock falling out the corners..
EAS picked up ok, radio works,(no need for code..?)
But only fault I found (at the moment) was "gearbox fault" came up then it stalled twice. Being auto not sure about that one, so will have to do some searching on here for that.
Apologies for the long essay, but over excited and Mrs Bagshots not that interested,so got to tell someone and even the dog has lost interest.
Big day .!!

I used the old battery off the DSE that was in the shed. I know it's not strong anymore, but after a weeks charging it did the job on the day. And it does fit in the tray..(just)

Started digging in today. First job rear brakes. Took it for a slow crawl around the local carpark next door and checked everything working, or not. Found metal brake pipe rusted through on OS above rear wheel, just in the gap between chassis and body, pouring fluid all over the airbag. Hate doing brake pipes to start with and this one looks a p## to get to. Looking further along, I can see more rust on the others carrying on forward under the body towards the tank, so looks like a roll of pipe...and start bending.!

At least then you know they're done ... how are the caliper pistons ?

The calipers were just big balls of rust, but came apart and off... eventually. Piston must be moving because the disc has fresh rubbing marks from today. I have new discs that came with the car so they will go on, but think the calipers could clean up and reseal. But this is only the first side..

New ones seem the way to go as you have them ... re-doing calipers in winter is a faff ...

Had that pipe go on one of my P38's, replaced with Cupro Nickel. It's an horrible job as the retaining clips acros the back above the axle will most likely be rusted away too.
