Right I know another question on tyres, but if you had a budget of up to £100 per tyre and were looking for a new Mud Tyre which tyre would you go for?

I am looking for something that is for say 80% offroad 20% on road use (so INSA special tracks etc are not really what I'm looking for), size 265 75 16 and will be fitted to black steel modulars on my TD5 90.

Was going to go with the Recip Trial's but someone said that they went bust a few years ago and the only tyres now available are the old stock, which could make getting a replacement in future difficult if I need to change one tyre for any reason. Hence why I am starting to look again.

So what are you using, are they any good and what would you recommend?????????

At 80% offroad and 20% onroad I would have said special tracks would have fitted the bill.

Next set of tyres I'm gonna get are insa turbo Sahara's. The reason I got special tracks in the first place is because not many people do sahara's in 265's. Next time around I'm gonna go for 235's again. They throw less mud up my windows.

Personally, I'd wait a bit, save some more and go for the daddys ... BFG MT's ... ;)

My BFG AT's were £120 each, but I sold the last set of 4 on 7" rims with 25k mileage but still with 8-10mm tread for £250 on ebay .. which makes them very cheap. They were rounding off at the edges and losing out a tad off-road. My current ones have 12k on them, are still sharp, and they're still biting off road.

MT's aren't _that_ much dearer, and if you sell 'em on when the edges go off a bit they still have shed-loads of tread and someone will buy them 'cos they're still good .. but you can then buy another new set ... thus letting you have all the best times of the new tyre sets before they start letting go .. ;)

That's what I'll do with these later this year, sell 'em while they're still good, and buy new ones ... and my next set will be BFG MT's.

You can do the same with other tyres, but so many people see "BFG" and get blinkers .. you will have had the best of the tyres and passed 'em on to someone who could still use them ... while you get new ones again!

First place when I searched for 'my' sizes ... BFG MT ... I have no doubt I could get them cheaper ...

;)
