Oh god I am stupid - Refilling Diesel

Right I press a button on my dash and the little flap swings open
I go to my filler and pop in the diesel
I replace the filler cap

How the hell do you shut the flap? The little bolt thing is back so it wont close. It is not shaped in a way that it pushes back out of the way if you push it.
Thus far it has been a two man operation getting someone in the cab to press the button so I can close it. I have a free wekend this weekend so I am considering adventure time. I will however be on my own so can some explain how this works without me recruiting someone on the street?

Manual? Yeah they totoally left that in the car 167000 miles ago.
2nd hand so I dont have it. Just thought I would get some friendly help. Evidently not
 
So it turns out its missing a part on the flap which I can buy on Ebay for £3
Guess I need to find a 'Beginers forum' as opposed to the 1337 landyzone
 
Thanks freelaner. The Solenoid is fine but apparently there is a plastic part that attaches to the inside of the flap that apparently is not present on my vehicle. Having limited experience with Discoveries I wasnt sure if there was a timer not functioning on the release but alas its a £3 piece of plastic. Shame I hadn't know it at the time I could have got £3 off the asking price

I did search and they were all solenoid based rather than the little piece of missing plastic. It was funnily enough resolved by my colleague 'Master of Google' more by a brute force attack than any knowledge of what he was looking for. I am happy to let the trolls have their fun. What would they do for fun otherwise?
On a side note the search section as you type in the title is very good. Not seen it before on a forum and must resolve a lot of repost issues

you'd think so, but no noobies use it:mad: and ask the daftest q's. that starts to wear a little thin sometimes

anyway enjoy the site ;)
 
I work in IT for the exchange. I get called all manner of things by impatient traders all the time. Thick skin I do have sadly sometimes I forget myself and rise to the trolls.
