Is happened again, me Freelander 1 petrol still going strong at 93,000 miles and now its sporting a fine new leather armrest - lovely!!

The way I see it my FL is almost 9 years old. It is going to fail and it will cost money to fix - this does not make it a bad vehicle, just getting on. If I could finance a new one, which frankly i'd love to but cant afford, then would expect it to be bloody perfect / good for 3-5 years but after 9 or 10 and several owners, maybe not. Not so much tempting fate, more being a realist. I do seem to have been lucky with mine but then I do look after it with servicing etc. I get fed up with the "why did I buy this" "bloody thing gone wrong again" bla bla. Buy a new or late car or suck it up and run an ageing LR (whatever model). Sorry ranting!!
 
I've had a lot go wrong with my 1.8 freeby over the last couple of weeks, but she's ten years old and it's to be expected.

Left front ball joint (new wishbone)
Clutch slave cylinder bracket (new bracket and master and slave cylinder)
Tappets sticking (fixed by oil change and some wynns hydraulic tappet cleaner)
Split radiator hose (yet to fix, only happened today)

All the parts listed above are relatively low cost and i save a lot of money by doing everything myself.

My theory is that if i keep her well maintained and keep replacing worn parts, i'll know they aren't going to go wrong again for a while (hopefully several years), and it's a lot cheaper than buying a new car.

All cars wear and tear, my dad had a Kia Carens from brand new, it took only 2 and a half years for the front ball joints to wear. 10 Years for my freeby isn't bad going.
