Hi all,

I'm thinking about buying an old(ish) land rover to help out on my smallholding. I had been considering a series 2 or 3, , but after months of looking haven't found anything even vaguely decent. A mate told me of an old 90 2.5 just up the road that i could have for next to nothing, problem is it has been off the road parked for 3 years. the chassis and bulkhead look fine, I scraped and whacked almost everywhere I could and everything semmed to be in reasonable shape. I'm going round 2row to try and get the engine started and see if I can get it moving.

It's a nice old landy, basic farmers version, and is just the sort of thing I'm looking for. I used to have an old coastguard series 3, so am used to the ongoing maintenance bit that comes with an old landy.

I'm a bit nervous of all the things that could have degraded or corroded in that time, and would appreciate any advice about what to look especially hard at, or even how to tackle getting it going!

cheers

Dont move it...even if it starts!! The brakes will probably have seized on it, especially the transmission brake. If you can get it lifted up, on a GOOD trolley jack then ease the wheels see if they give...

Its probably got ****ty fuel in it if its been stood for yonks...just have a damn good look at the chassis, bulkhead, outriggers...anywhere the tin worm can get in.

If thats all in order then i'd buy it...especially if its very very cheap...the engine, panels etc are cheap and easy to find.

What engine is in it? Has he got v5 etc?

Take some piccys...but 90's are not generally cheap...even a dog fetches ok money cos re-built they are cracking landys and good re-sale value.
